Got some pics of an incredible insect at the Woodland Regional Park Preserve this afternoon. A Steel-blue Cricket-hunter Wasp - Chlorion aerarium.
Well it is going to be over 100F in Davis today so - even though I have an agonizing painful lump on bottom of one foot, I came to our #ucdavis treasure this am - the Riparian Preserve where it is a little bit cooler than surroundings.
Went to see the bats at #YoloBypass yesterday at sunset and got some good pics, including of a Swainson's hawk hunting them. Here are a few pics.
Wearing my "Gorilla Doctors" shirt today for the people who are from DR Congo at Gorilla Doctors gorilladoctors.org #WorldCup
Grey ghost (male Northern harrier) at Yolo Bypass seen Saturday just before a duel with a Swainson's hawk (which I posted about yesterday). I just love watching Northern Harriers fly and hover and hunt. They are such graceful birds. And the adult males (aka grey ghosts) are just beautiful #birds
Oh and I forgot to mention - the coolest thing about this was - in some of the pics there is also a male caprenter bee -- one of my favorite organisms. I love that I got two of my favorite showy male critters in one pic #birds
Bumped into a pair of blue grosbeaks at Yolo Bypass Friday. They were MUCH less skittish than other blue grosbeaks I have encountered. The male was hanging out on the road near Lot F and I got some pics of it and then the female showed up shortly thereafter. #birds
Grey Ghost (male northern harrier) and Swainson’s hawk in a disagreement #birds
Posting some pics of my time at THE KENNEDY CENTER in 2012 when I gave my TEDMED talk. No clue why I suddenly wanted to post some pics from my time at THE KENNEDY CENTER.
Franklin's Gull???? Help with identification would be appreciated. Less than an hour ago on June 12 I saw this gull at Yolo Bypass. I think it is a Franklin's Gull but not sure. If it is a Franklin's it is a bit rare for this area. I have posted pics to Ebird and iNaturalist too ... #birds
How is this SPAM/ SCAM supposed to work? Does anybody answer these?
Last night, just near sunset, after going to some events for First Friday in Woodland, CA with my daughter, we drove by the Woodland Water Treatment Plant. With the sun going down the lighting on the white faced ibises there was was astonishing. Here is my favorite pic from last night. #birds
