heyyy it's wednesday and i did a lot of work on the wip over the weekend. #WIPWednesday 🖋️

“I don’t want you out of my hair. I want you where I can keep an eye on you, make sure you’re okay.”

Hoseok blinks up at him. “Really?”

“Yeah, really.”

“But I - we - we didn’t even know each other that well, and -”

“Hyungie. Shush.” He rubs a thumb on Hoseok’s temple, trying to relax the worried crinkle of his forehead. He’s going to give himself a headache, on top of everything else. “I was going to ask if you wanted to date, you know. Before all this. Like really date, not just what we were doing. Remember that time we had chicken? I wanted a lot more of that, as well as everything else we got up to.”

“Oh. Really? I loved that night, with the chicken… You’re not just being nice?”

“No.” It feels like a terrible time for it, with Hoseok still looking so miserable, his eyes red-rimmed and brimming with tears again. But there’s nothing for it - Jongyoung wants to kiss him. To prove something, maybe. So he leans down, and kisses Hoseok, gentle, careful of the cuts on his face and his chewed, chapped lips.

When he pulls back, Hoseok is smiling, so he must have succeeded in getting his point across.

“You really like me even when I’m gross and pathetic?”

There is one (1) good moment on 95 in Virginia and it’s when you swing through downtown Richmond heading north and are at eye level with the upper stories of Main Street Station. Absolutely abysmal urban planning but at least you get to look at a cool building.

happy #wipwednesday, the Wonho wingfic hurt/comfort must continue 🖋️

Sometime in the morning of the second day, though, Jongyoung is changing the bandage on a cut on his chest when he blinks hard a few times, and a little wrinkle of thought or confusion appears between his eyebrows, and he says “Jongyoung?”

“Hey,” Jongyoung says. Maybe he should have aimed for casual, unbothered, but it comes out as gentle as everything he’s said for the last 24 hours. “There you are. Welcome back.”

Hoseok keeps his eyes locked on Jongyoung’s face. “How…”

“Let’s answer that when you’re feeling a bit better, yeah?”

Hoseok groans a little and lets his head flop back on the pillow. “Mm. Yeah.”

“How do you feel? Are you in pain?”

“Yeah.” He looks over to his left wing, and goes pale.

“Yeah,” Jongyoung says, too, and touches Hoseok’s shoulder. “You lost a lot of feathers. But no breaks or anything. You’re just going to be uncomfortable for a while.”

Hoseok squeezes his eyes shut briefly, opens them again, takes a shaky breath.

The backroom of the boarded-up store is dingy. Poorly lit. Once Jongyoung has the assholes guarding the place on the run, he fumbles for a light switch, but nothing comes on. There’s only the few florescent strip lights casting a sickly green glow. It’s fine, his eyes are adjusting, and he can see what he needs to see. The random broken furniture. The sink against the wall, dripping wet puddles onto the floor. The bare mattress on the floor. The slumped form, propped against a column. Conscious, but barely.

There are feathers everywhere. Soft, downy debris, littering the floor, sticking in random patches of damp, still floating through the air from where the fight had stirred them up.

“Hoseok,” Jongyoung breathes, gentle in the now-quiet room.

As he approaches, Hoseok blinks sluggishly. Seems to focus on him for the first time, and Jongyoung breathes a sigh of relief when something sparks in his eyes. Recognition. He opens his mouth. Coughs. Can’t seem to find words to say, but his eyes are shining now, locked on Jongyoung. Threatening to brim over with tears.

“Hey, hey. You’re okay. We’re gonna get you out of here. You’re okay.”

He's even sitting up, his more damaged left wing propped on every pillow Jongyoung owns and then some. That was one of the weirder online orders Jongyoung's ever made, but also the biggest-yet-lightest box he's ever hauled in from the street.

It’s a pity that there isn’t a bigger Wonho fandom, because I need the Core concept photos to provoke approximately 130 wingfics.

He hadn’t known Xie Haozhi was back. But now that he thinks of it, this is his aunt’s shop. Not an unusual place for him to have turned up.

How long has he been back? He hadn’t sent word.

But why would he, really? They were friends, but that was a long time ago, now. A lot has happened.

Zizhen suddenly becomes aware he should say something. Xie Haozhi is looking up at him. He’s not holding up his half of the conversation. “Thank you,” he says, finally, falling back on the standard politeness. “I was just taking a walk, and thought it might be good to see how the textile shops are faring - was the problem resolved with the Jin warehouses, the gold thread?”

Xie Haozhi nods, slowly. “We received a shipment just three days ago, would you like to see?”

“Oh - yes, please.” He trusts the tailors and embroiders to know what they’re doing, really, and it’s not like he’s an expert in threads, but it’s also an invitation to speak to Hoazhi more, so he’ll take it.

Xie Haozhi folds the piece he was working on - it looks like a woman’s bodice, with a fine peony embroidery growing on the chest - and sets it aside on the bench.
