RIFfed HHS civil servant. It is in the interest of tyrants to reduce the people to ignorance and vice. —Samuel Adams How goes the world? It wears, sir, as it grows. — Shakespeare (Timon) This is my substitute for pistol and ball. — Ishmael, Melville
Cue Velma Melmac, Farley’s denizen of Yosemite campsites, wielding her trusty vacuum and cans of bug fogger.
If I had *tried* to bake a Mola mola it would never have turned out this accurate.
Every time I grab the hand mixer I long for a discussion with the designers. Ignore the mixing faceplate—why does it only go to 7?!
When the name went up they used a cherry picker. (Photo shows workers in a green cherry picker adding Trump’s name to the wall of the Kennedy center, from ABC News)
It seems bad when a congresswoman takes to Facebook to lambaste you, but just that’s just Mrs (A former crisis PR pro.)
#ETTD This terrible logo doesn’t work vertically, as seen at National Airport (DCA). Graphic design is their passion.
Look at the tacky ad the WaPo is running inside the story of a suicide-by-cop at the White House. Embarrassing. Disgusting.
If you’re not a science geek and don’t want to click, note that the researcher is with the Army’s infectious disease research lab in Frederick, Maryland. They often work in conjunction with NIH’s NIAID; you may remember them both from anthrax news stories. Federal funding for science saves lives.

Nothing hits quite like that first sip of coffee on a Monday morning. Good coffee is SO GOOD. (Also good: more of it.)
Behold, my childhood. Crossed the US twice from a bench just like that. You couldn’t put anything combustible on the floor behind the driver, because it would get hot enough to make a down-filled throw pillow stink like burned hair. Steering wheel the size of a yacht’s. 15 MPG in town.
The Pollening has begun in the nation’s Capital. Just look at all those evil little male bits blanketing the air with noxious spawn.
Agree that a talented reader can manage multiple voices, for sure. Look at Harry Shearer. 😃
Spent hours cooking a pot of butter beans yesterday, and forgot them on the stove while washing up. You can tell a lot about one’s childhood and general risk aversion by discussing whether to serve them for dinner or toss them out like nuclear waste.
