Good guy, tries hard.
“Why don’t you say it on a site he’s on” is one of the funniest fake tough lines ever. I can’t believe it’s real. All I can think of is Will Arnett in Let’s Go to Prison showing off his “tough face.”
Day 35: end of the road. Today’s jersey is not thematic but it’s the first eBay jersey purchase I ever made and got this whole jersey obsession started. Got to watch the final with the guy who was responsible for getting to see so six (!) games this WC. Can’t ask for much more. Congrats Spain
Day 34: brb about to watch the most depressing rendition of god save the king in history
Day 32: attended a World Cup semifinal with my brother. It was beautiful. Afterward we played pickup footy with a bunch of randoms on the grass outside JerryWorld. Honestly, can’t ask for much more.
Day 31: England and Norway about to kick off. Technically this is the same shirt as a previous entry, but it’s reversible so I’m wearing the other side of it. Also, headed to ARG/SUI tonight at arrowhead. Cannot wait!
Day 30: was struggling to think of what to go with today since my lukaku shirt has sadly gone missing. Then i remembered: Belgium are the Red Devils. The answer is obvious!
Day 29: whew! Thank god our long international nightmare is over: we have games again. I was having withdrawals after that one day break. France/Morocco went about as I expected - France are just ridiculous. Also, is a T-shirt jersey actually a jersey? Well, when it’s Eric Cantona….yes.
Day 28: first break in the action! My usual photographer decided to wear a jersey today so i felt it appropriate to do some role reversal this morning (he is a big fan of the tucked in shirt, bit of an old soul).
Martinez is touching the ball with his left foot as the Egyptian player steps on his right foot. I don’t know how this can be clarified by another angle? He’s in possession when the foul occurs
Day 27: the last day of the consecutive game streak that begins the World Cup. Kinda wild! This is a France ‘98 “summer league” jersey that is meant to be Argentina but without the crest. It’s super weird but I love it? Also, about last night….let’s just never speak of it.
Day 26: welp, Spain just sent Portugal packing. This is prob my favorite non-United jersey. My parents brought it back from a trip when I was in 6th grade. That it still fits tells you about the sleeve length in the 90s. It’s also pre-logo and thus refreshingly clean. A gem from a bygone era.
Day 25: England/Mexico today and while I’ve enjoyed Mexico a lot this tournament, I think I have to root for England. This is one of my favorite jerseys, got it in high school.
ay 23: shoutout to Ghanaian defender Alfred Duncan of Venezia. (Also a sad goodbye to Rock Chalk Algeria 🇩🇿, you had a good run.)
@michaelcaley.bsky.social looked at this and said aloud, instinctively, “yep, that’s a paddlin’.” This is (analytical) football heritage @futi.live @johnspacemuller.com
Day 22: fresh off the first US knockout win in 24 years, you love to see it! Portugal/Croatia today. That means more Bruno and more 6 year-old photography
Day 21: Note that this is not a New England Patriots jersey. It is an American Patriots jersey. GO USA! 🇺🇸 I got this jersey after the 1996 Super Bowl. The Pats, who’d never won anything, seemed like a harmless team to support since the Chiefs had also never won anything. Funny how things change.
Day 20: “when ze seagulls…” look, is it an authentic Cantona? 😬 😬 😬 not so much, but tbf I got this when I was 20 and I did not really know the difference. The collar also used to have laces 😂 Good luck to France today. May King Eric be with you.
Day 18: I’m not really sure where this Lukas Podolski shirt even came from? But with Germany playing today, I’m going for it. S/o to a guy with a dynamite left foot. He scored a brace v Sweden in the 2006 Ro16. Could they meet in the Ro16 again? Sweden’s gotta get by France first, so…unlikely!
Day 18: ngl, this one was tough. I don’t have much that relates to Canada/RSA. However, I do have a Gianluca Busio jersey, and Busio plays for Venezia, which is partly owned by infamous Canadian Drake. That’ll have to do, lol.
Day 17: last day of the group stage. Someone is only one goal away from tying Michael Owen and Bobby Charlton for World Cup goals for England….🫡 👉🏻🤫 (Yes, I have way too many Rashford shirts.)
Day 16: France looked muy sexy again so it’s apropos that I was wearing my Zidane Juve shirt. All great players wear #21; everyone knows this.
Day 15 Bonus Content: Never thought I’d see the day I’d see public transportation in Kansas City packed to the gills in soccer jerseys. Truly brings a tear to my eye. Here I am riding the Oranje Line train this morning
Day 15: the thread rolls on! I should probably save the Rapinoe shirt for when we REALLY need the vibes. Guess I’ll just have to buy more USA gear later if/as we advance. What a bummer!
Day 14: Scotland/Brazil today! My earliest World Cup memory is Baggio going over the crossbar in ‘94, but the first match I remember really taking in was Brazil/Scotland in ‘98. Ronaldo Fenómeno was…simply phenomenal. Shame in me for not having a R9 shirt - giving the nod to Uncle Case today
