Dungeness: Late afternoon on an island from Makepiece Hide 2 Wood Sandpipers feeding in the surf. The juvenile Black Tern that has been present for a week finally showed well for me from Makepiece.

A rewarding visit to Firth overlooking Burrowes Pit this afternoon, seeing my first Black Tern of the autumn and my first Little Stint of the autumn. along with Polish ringed Black-headed Gull that I also recorded in August 2023 and August 2024.

A few nice bits in my VC15 trap today. Usually they would all be migrants but these probably all hatched nearby.

Not a bad night in my VC15 trap considering the strong ENE wind last night. A tatty Light Crimson Underwing that's obviously come from afar😳 First Gypsy Moth of the year, a fresh Bordered Straw, and xylostella because it posed, like exigua I don't count them any more. @migrantmothuk.bsky.social

I've been spending quite a lot of evenings on Walland Marsh, mostly I have it to myself. The Tree Sparrows seem to be having a good year with 100+ present, also the Yellow Wagtails & Corn Buntings appear to have done well with many youngsters around, while Barn Owls appear to have failed.🤷🏼

An early morning visit to The Midrips and Wickes. Wheatears still feeding young, disappointing for waders as drying out rapidly. A Ringed Plover sitting on 4 eggs by the path & a few LRPs present.

A Bright Wave which is just about annual in my VC15 trap this morning was the highlight. Also several Neofriseria peliella quite common round Dungeness but rare nationally. A Red-belted Clearwing came to my Sallow lure this afternoon. #TeamMoth

Dungeness: Early evening at Dengemarsh and as usual I have it to myself, not even a dog walker, just the superb Caspian Tern fishing for a few minutes before returning to Burrowes.

Dungeness. Not sure what was going on with my lens today, out of the 100s of images taken of the Caspian Tern this out of focus image is the only one I’ve kept, simply because it’s the best of a very poor bunch. 🤷🏻‍♂️😢

I spent several hours last evening wandering around Walland Marsh listening for Quail and failed miserably. A superb encounter with a Barn Owl, lots of Yellow Wagtails and Corn Buntings were ample compensation. #UKBirding
