Happy 20 years to Dead Rising, first released way back on August 8, 2006. It's hard to think of Capcom's 7th-gen console output without bringing up Frank West's first chaotic adventure through a zombie-filled mall. Definitely rough around the edges, but a wild game that's difficult to put down.
Paledusk announced a 15-date US headlining tour and one of the dates is at a tiny venue here in STL. It's less than a week after the Mastodon/Deafheaven/Alcest show, but I couldn't help myself. I expect it to be a SOLD OUT show, so I jumped on this right away. Excited to see these guys live!
Happy 40 years to Metroid, a legendary series that's changed the way I and many others have experienced video games. Thank you to all the devs and staff, new and old, who've kept this series going over all these years, and of course, to the birthday girl herself.
I really oughta revisit Metal Gear Solid V again at some point. Haven't played it since it launched back in 2015. Is it a compromised project with issues and holes everywhere? Yeah. Is it a fun game to play and just mess around in? Also yeah.
Beast of Reincarnation looks neat, but what's a guy gotta do to get a sequel to Tembo the Badass Elephant?
The main character Yashiro just wants to eat pizza, drink beer, and play legally distinct Magic: The Gathering card games with his fellow jaded assassin friends. And dammit, that's the realest you can get.
Scum of the Brave really came out of nowhere for me. Kinda had that old mid-2000's shonen vibe going for it. Its story of a jaded assassin rekindling his faith in humanity by mentoring some younger warriors-in-training isn't the most unique, but damn, its cast is great. Surprisingly fun show.

Got a couple of purchases online this week. I really enjoyed The Unwanted Undead Adventurer when it aired, so a physical edition of Season 1 was a must-buy. And this Metal Gear spin-off was only $10 on PlayStation 4! Really nice...huh? Of course it's a Metal Gear spin-off! What else could it be?

Watched the first episode of Yani Neko last weekend. What a filthy, disgusting, relentlessly undignified look into addiction and how it affects a person and the people around them. It has its moments of lightheartedness, but it's the lack of glamor that's keeping me invested in its lead.
The roads of post-rock and noise rock have all become weathered over the decades, but it's beyond eye-opening to learn where all of those roads led back to. I can't imagine being a jaded, artsy New Yorker in the early 80's and hearing, for the first time, something that sounds like this. #NowPlaying
Lots of people are gonna miss out on weird, experimental video games like Tokyo Jungle and Murasaki Baby because Sony refuses to keep the lights on for their digital storefronts.
Like not even just the literal "forge" definition. His name sounds like some mythic viking hero, but he's just a goofy guy who wears face paint, dances and pirouettes on camera, and listens to ABBA. What a champ.

Happy 10 years to The Glowing Man by Swans. While it's not my favorite of the trilogy (that'll go to The Seer), it's the one whose individual tracks are most digestible. While The Seer is best experienced as a whole, I can come back to "Cloud of Unknowing" or the title track easily here. #NowPlaying

I remember listening to All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us by Architects ten years ago. I couldn't believe how heavy it sounded. Decided to revisit this record, nearly 15 years after it first dropped. What a strange experiment from a band that was desperate for relevance. There are some bangers here, but it's because the dubstep side of the equation, not the Korn side. A big misstep, but a really interesting one. #NowPlaying
