A hazy, smoky sunrise as the rain’s brought down the smoke from Conwy and Halkyn mountain fires into the valleys.
Went to the Big Meeting today (what a wonderful day it was). Thought you’d all enjoy the new Durham Miners’ slogan:
I wonder where the list is 🤓@urbanprehistorian.bsky.social @prehistoricsociety.bsky.social
I had my first experience of cockchafers at dusk last night which was terrifying, but then I find out that they look like this:
Update. Within 24 hours of this learning, the baby was feeding independently. They grow so fast! And now I have to spend my income on peanuts.
Useful visual tool on ONS website showing UK disparity in income deprivation. Poorest, at 22-25% deprivation (1 in 4 / 5): Middlesbrough Knowsley (Liverpool) Blackpool Liverpool Hartlepool Hull Birmingham Manchester It’d be good to see this data plotted vs voting. www.ons.gov.uk/visualisatio...

Reminder too that these are the views of members who hadn’t already resigned. The European Association of Archaeologists must represent its membership. The #EAA Board must now reverse its decision, or resign. Europe knows, we don’t platform fascism, we don’t stay quiet on genocide.
If any journalists follow here, please write up the story of Mahmoud Alzard. Mahmoud was from Gaza and ended his life in the Mersey this week, leaving his wife and young daughters. We need to remind people what seeking asylum means. RIP.
Sneak peek at PhD student Lydia Barrett’s Prehistory map series for NE Wales (funded by the wonderful @cambriansarch.bsky.social) Objective is to plot all PAS/HER data for the region, to help us better understand the back story to Penycloddiau Hillfort (as inspired by Bill Varley and Lily Chitty).
