WOW OKAY so it was just raining SO HARD there -- like 20 minutes of being trapped in a washing machine -- and now the sun has come out but the rain has only minimally eased off It's shining on the downed branches in front of my house which is very aesthetic but still alarming!

a broken tree branch partly on the sidewalk, in front of a lawn and not quite on the street. the street shows that it is still raining pretty hard, with raindrops falling into an inch or so of water that hasn't drained yet. the branch is in a ray of strong sunshine.

Also, I continue to enjoy that the dollar store by my place (which has been there since I moved here in 2022) was definitely something else before, because they kept the old sign and just made it into Dollar Horf

But the MAIN thing is that I walked to the pharmacy and felt very smug about walking there (not a Walk of Resentment!) and also can we say "Thank you big trees" because it immediately feels like three or four degrees cooler under them

ANYWAY I did eventually get to run my errand (Franca jumped off me to go meep at birds at the window) I was testing whether DAZZLE CAMOUFLAGE of any kind would maybe fox the mosquitoes (which are CLOUDS out here I mean just CLOUDS, CLOUDS) Anyway no I got a bite on mine butt

Oh mannnn... I'm digging through my files looking for the most puerile adolescentia I can find (for recording with Burn Before Reading tomorrow!) and this was transferred from a WordPerfect doc to a Word doc to CORRUPT CORRUPT CORRUPT and I just uncorrupted it... I wrote this when I was ~ 13?

After the service Simon wandered around having his hand shaken by friends and family in various stages of the grieving process and he wondered at how calm he felt, not numb, wondered if it would all come out later - like their mother, collapsed in a heap at the graveside, screaming, immovable as a tick, so that the young guy with the little backhoe they used to fill in the grave couldn't move, and Father O'Bannon was making throat-cutting motions in the air to get him to back off. Her sobs seemed foreign to him, like the cry of a strange animal in a nature documentary. He wished someone would come pull her away, stand her up, take her to a car.
