I am so mad! This pie was baking beautifully, but I jumped when my finger grazed the pan as I was putting the pie guard on and fucked up the surface (and got pie everywhere). At least I know it’s gonna taste good.

Also, here's a good way to evaluate a reading curriculum (adapted from a handout from my work)

Do This:

Use oral reading fluency assessments to focus on specific skills.
Teach using short, guided readings with teacher modeling and feedback.
Plan for repeated, monitored readings of instructional-level texts.
Include a variety of text genres (fiction, non-fiction, plays, poetry).
Use read-aloud strategies like choral and partner reading.
Encourage independent reading for enjoyment and rewards.

Not That:

Avoid assessments based on context clues or specific letters (Three Cueing System).
Don’t rely on silent reading practices like Drop Everything and Read.
Don’t have students read instructional texts without support or only once.
Don’t limit students to one type of text genre.
Avoid round-robin reading in groups.

I’m not referring to teaching cueing—that’s not part of our curriculum. I’m talking about what the article says here. But, the example was actually about a kindergarten teacher who alarmed a parent. This isn’t something typically taught in kindergarten, so I rescind my pearl-clutching admonishment.

Here's what happens when a reader who has good phonics skills comes to a word she doesn't recognize in print. She stops at the word and sounds it out. If it's a word she knows the meaning of, she has now linked the spelling of the word with its pronunciation. If she doesn't know the meaning of the word, she can use context to try to figure it out.

I made the salad from the #stardewvalley cookbook! The dandelion greens were a pain in the ass. They wilt really quickly. Probably will stick with arugula & other greens next time. The leek & thyme vinaigrette was amazing, however. Will definitely make it again.
