It’s polling day for the Police & Crime Commissioner in Norfolk, yet the EDP is still carrying this extremely prominent advert on the landing page of its website, as it has done, day & night, for the past 3 days. Utterly disgraceful.
This advertisement is still on the EDP’s landing webpage this morning, just 2 days before the PCC election. This is deeply shocking.
This is the landing web page tonight of the Eastern Daily Press, the leading local newspaper for Norfolk. Seriously, F*ck You, EDP! F*ck You!

Saw that arresting Gwen John portrait of Chlöe Boughton-Leigh in the National Museum Cardiff just two days ago! They also had this one, of the same subject, in the exhibition. Thank you for showcasing so much amazing womens’ art!
It’s been many years since I last visited St Fagans open air museum. It has grown significantly, and is stupendously good. Modelled on Skansen in Stockholm, it’s much more impressive imho because Skansen’s buildings are mostly made of wood, whereas most of those in St Fagans are of stone and brick.
National Museum Cardiff and National Library of Wales have amazing collections of Gwen John’s drawings, sketches and letters. They were delightful, and fascinating.
As predicted, an emotional day! The Gwen John exhibition at National Museum Cardiff was exceptional. Some of my faves below. Our afternoon trip to St Fagans history museum (founded by my dad’s friend Dr Iorwerth Peate) fell victim to the heat, as they closed early. We’ll try again in the morning 🤞
First leg of the long, hot drive from East Anglia to Cardiff safely completed. Now sitting in the delightfully cool Nag’s Head Inn in Usk, enjoying a splendid pint after a lovely walk along the river, where some locals had found their own way of cooling off.
Confession - Gwen John’s girl wasn’t my #1 Go-To on the many occasions after school when, bored of waiting for my dad to finish work in the Industry department, I’d wander upstairs to the Art galleries. I always headed straight for Renoir’s Blue Lady - and still do. She takes my breath away.
Not the best day to be making the long drive from East Anglia to Cardiff, but the Gwen John exhibition finishes this weekend, and the hotel’s already booked, so… I’ve loved her work since my teens, when I first saw this portrait, Girl in Profile, in the National Museum, and bought the poster.

This lovely little chap (a fledgling wren) came to say hello while I was sitting on the lawn earlier. Sound on for some forlorn cheeping when he realised I didn’t have any tasty insects for him. 🥰
Visited a super new gallery in Bungay this pm (y’day was their 1st day) and enjoyed chatting with one of the exhibitors, the very talented Bella Bigsby. If you’re in the area, do call in - it’s on Broad Street, along from the Town Council/Museum. Tomorrow evening, 5-7, you can meet the artists 👍
Isn’t it amazing? We saw this much more modest 80m Roman bridge in the Luberon a few weeks ago. It’s Pont Julien, near Bonnieux, on the ancient Via Domitia from Rome to Spain. It was still open to cars until 2005! It’s evidently long been a popular nesting place
I’d be hard-pressed to choose between my Barchetta (20 yrs) or my Panda Cross (11 yrs).
Spotted this cluster of caterpillars on the nettles in the wild part of our garden. I think they’re of the Peacock Butterfly? 🙏
