First day of the semester for my 16th year at Lafayette, and my 19th year teaching college. I’ve now been teaching as long as my first year students have been alive. 🤯
My family is in Spain this week and on Wednesday we went to Zaragoza to see the #eclipse2026 in totality. It was amazing!! This video doesn’t do justice to the entire experience but I keep rewatching it. The collective joy and excitement of the crowd was a wonderful part of it!
Conferencing the last two days at the Psych One conference that is all about Introduction to Psychology courses, and I’m going home with several concrete ideas to bring into my course this fall semester! 🤩 Also I am a certified nerd who now has an APA style pen and an I ❤️ Stats sticker. 🧐
✨Twenty years ago ✨today, right at this time (4pm) I made the best decision of my life - marrying the wonderful Steven Jax! 💗🤩😘 I’m so thankful for the life we have built together and for our sweet girls we are raising. We look forward to many more happy years! 🤩
For 4 semesters, my 300-level class has contributed data to the ManyNumbers project, a global research effort in which over 100 labs are studying how children learn about number. Excited to hopefully share how to integrate these projects into undergraduate courses at the Big Team Science conference.
Happy end of the spring semester to all who celebrate! Re-sharing my favorite meme for this time of year...😊

#CDS2026 was a great conference! 🎉The pre-conferences (digital media & dev sci at non-R1 institutions) were the highlight for me. It’s exciting to see where the children & media field is going and it was validating to talk to others doing cog dev sci at SLACs & other non-R1s.
My Moodle sites and syllabi are now ready for spring semester! 🎉 🤩 I'm teaching my two favorite classes - Lifespan Development I and II (with lab). 💖
So far this week, I've productively procrastinated on course prep, but the bright side is that I have a professional website now! 🎉 I'm a newbie to this but loved the Canva template that was super easy to work with. Check it out and let me know if you have any suggestions... proflaurenmyers.com
Congratulations to Lafayette alum Lucy Neely '22 for publishing an empirical manuscript based on the honors thesis @lafayettecollege that she completed with me in 2022. The paper is now published in early view! 🥳 🤩 Full text: 10.1111/infa.70065 or email myersl@lafayette.edu for a PDF
🎓 Professor John Shaw of the Lafayette College Psychology Dept will be retiring at the end of the 2025-26 year! 📚 We're creating a book filled with student well wishes & memories! 🎉 📕 (Don't worry, he's not on BlueSky so he won't see this.) 🤫 Share your well wishes&photos ⬇️ forms.gle/oVt8PriJMLdU...
Finished listening to this audiobook on my daily walk today and it was great! I found it informative, empowering & inspirational, and I’m leaving the book with some actionable strategies to treat & prevent burnout. One that I’ve been particularly enjoying is gratitude practice. 💕
#psychsky I have an unprecedented amount of recommendation letters to write this fall, many with a Dec 1 due date. But one of my students received this warning from PsyCAS that materials need to be submitted *2 weeks* ahead of the due date so they can be verified. Have others heard of this change?!
Excited for the Play it Forward conference today in Philadelphia! 🎉 I use playful learning landscapes in my upper-level class for undergraduates. I’m eager to learn more about these great projects that integrate playful learning into everyday spaces.
I brought back French macarons from Paris for my wonderful departmental colleagues. Does this count as departmental service? ☺️
J’aime beaucoup Paris!!! 💕 I’m already planning another trip here in a few years to bring my husband. ☺️
I’m in Paris for a week! 🇫🇷 My friend & I are eating crêpes, going to museums, shopping & exploring the city. The highlight today was going to the top of the Eiffel Tower. What a beautiful city! 🤩
For years, I’ve struggled with using ruby scripts to export observational coding data from Datavyu. But I am finally getting the hang of it! 🎉 Also I highly recommend having your scripts tell you that you’re amazing - it’s a nice confidence boost. ☺️
Love these! 🤣 Never mind that my collaborators and I have published papers with figures that look like the confidence interval one…😉
In 2022, Gabrielle Strouse & I gratefully received an NIH R15 grant to study grandparent-grandchild interactions over video chat. We've completed our study with 186 triads participating & today is the last day of our grant funding! We'll be presenting and publishing from this dataset for years. 🎉
Happy #caturday! This is Pumpkin (L) & Lucy (R) and they are our bonded pair. Moments before this photo, they were grooming each other! 💕☺️
Excited for my first foray into qualitative research starting today with a 3-day intensive training workshop with ResearchTalk and the UNC Odum Center for Research in the Social Sciences. #sabbatical 🎉
Just in time for #Caturday I present our usually shy kitty Lucy! 💕
