Everyone is welcome to join me tomorrow and discuss my alternative and unique interpretation of early abolitionism.
NBC News silent on the most significant finding in its own survey: that a whopping 69% of respondents "strongly agree" that in the US "wealthy people can often avoid consequences that ordinary people would face for the same actions." Instead spooning out civics propaganda. tinyurl.com/2zpepcb7
Reading early 19c pamphlets debating whether Catholic immigrants should be afforded due process and ran across this verse no Christian nationalist ever quotes: LEV. 24:22. YE SHALL HAVE ONE MANNER OF LAW, AS WELL FOR THE STRANGER, AS FOR ONE OF YOUR OWN COUNTRY: FOR I AM THE LORD YOUR GOD.
We've arrived at the bread and circuses stage of imperial decline. But these geniuses have left out the bread part...
Thursdays' great civics debate ranged across political science, social theory, history, and constitutionalism. My opponent, Josh Dunn is a true scholar and a nice guy. But I quibble with Josh being declared the winner, as I pulled more undecideds to my view. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpbQ...
One day away from my big debate with Josh Dunn. If you haven't considered the case against civics education, you might want to tune in. Thurs. 6 pm PT. This debate will also be livestreamed and archived on YouTube. Here is the link to the livestream: www.youtube.com/live/4l0r2sX...
If you are an educator considering adopting a legally compliant but uncompromising textbook for your civics course, dm me and I will send you a review copy. Also, for all course adoptions I'm making myself available via zoom for class Q&A.
Anyone in the LA area on Mar. 19 is welcome to come out and hear civic education debated.
Weird... I began updating my syllabi for the Spring term and checked the university calendars and MLK Day is just a blank. Probably just a glitch in the software...
Being a boomer who watched Sanford & Son and listened to the Grateful Dead, when the WaPo advertises its new product I think of something else...
According to an EdWeek poll, only 14% of teachers who voted for Trump think "Combating discrimination against students" is something the Federal government should do. The only thing we agree on across the partisan divide is we all hate curricular mandates. epe.brightspotcdn.com/bd/a5/a6645f...
Can I just point out that Erika Kirk’s fundraising letter that repeatedly refers to “the evildoers that took Charlie’s life” and “they tried to silence [him]” is conspiracy mongering and reckless?
Ohio's GOP has opened the door to renewed socialist education by requiring every student in state university to take a course that includes study of "the American economic system and capitalism." There is no other description of what this requires. Thank you comrade State Senator Jerry Cirino!
BTW, I am speaking on Slavery's Fugitives and the Making of the U.S. Constitution at the BGSU Constitution Day Symposium Friday (9/19) at 4:15 in Rm 207 of the Union. In spite of the reluctance of the BGSU Marketing Dept. to mention my existence, they did relent and squeeze my name in at the bottom.
At the red light I asked the guy in a red hat what his stage name was.
First time in a decade my local paper prints a story about me and it has nothing to do with books.
I understand why comfortable liberals prefer to have their martyrs be peaceful and innocent. But if you call yourself a "radical" you should be willing to entertain the possibility that the Haymarket martyrs believed in propaganda of the deed and thought bombing cops would spark the revolution.
OK Ohio... hearing for opponent testimony to SB 1 is Tuesday at 9 am. #ohiosb1
Ohio S.B. 1, the omnibus attack on higher education in Ohio, will be the subject of the House workforce and education committee, this coming Tuesday at 3:15.
A colleague reported that these flyers showed up near campus. I guess this is the "balanced discourse" MAGA demands we adopt.
I still like to delude myself and believe that academia has purpose beyond the market logic of capitalism but then I stumble across my uni's policy on naming academic programs. I'm hoping somebody will make me the DraftKings Professor of Cultural Studies for $300 k.
As I teach two classes today, I'm not going to be able to join my fellow defenders of free inquiry today. I look forward to watching all your insightful testimony later! Will someone please ask Sen. Cirino to define DEI and clarify what scholarships he considers "DEI" and wants to cancel?
Ohio GOP is preparing to mandate civics for all college students. I've written a text to meet the requirements of SB 1 "Unpatriotic Civics: A Blasphemous Look at America’s Founding Documents". So the sponsors understand what many of us will do with this requirement, here is the table of contents.
!!!BREAKING!!! Ohio SB 1 Proponent Testimony to take place Tues. Feb. 11 at 2 pm (North Hearing Room). GOP is planning to vote on it this same week!
My humble request for scholars to comment on my untraditional civics text found no volunteers. So, maybe my title page will elicit some curiosity. #skystorians
The usual “Like what you see” now sounds like a sales pitch. (End)
