IR theory / historical IR / Pedagogy / Maine / Dogs. Views=mine. Trying to practice kindness here. Also here to remind everyone that Thucydides never said that. But really mostly photos of the puppo.
Probably something like this John Zorn record would be in my wheelhouse, but...
Every now and again, you maybe start to feel like the world has lost its capacity to surprise you anymore. And then this truck pulls out in front of you during your morning commute.
Grover gets frustrated very easily, which has made training a challenge sometimes. But the look on his face when things finally click and he's learned something new? Priceless
And the wild blueberries at the edge of the yard are coming in nicely. Should be able to pick them soon. Rural life does have its pleasures
Just had the most adorable little visitor at my office window this morning. An American Goldfinch, I think? He sat on the ledge peering in at me and chattering away for a couple minutes.
This doofus sleeps thru fireworks. Does not even notice them. But if I sneeze in a room on the other end of the house? Reader, I will have wronged him terribly, and he will let me know.
Latest office decor find. Turns out, in 1965, Saul Bass did some design work for UNESCO. Now to get it up on the wall.
If you see this, I implore you to post a picture from whatever device you're using with no explanation.
Made a couple really good pizzas yesterday: one kind of traditional and the other not so much. Descriptions in alt text
We've been celebrating the 2nd anniversary of Grover's gotcha day all this week. The trip to the beach today was a highlight. I swear I've never known a happier pup than my buddy here.
Also, I deeply identify with this chicken. I am him. He is me. He is us all.
Tomorrow is Grover's gotcha day, and we're gonna be giving him a nearly 3' tall rubber chicken. Will the house survive intact? Stay tuned to find out.
Grover's a VERY high energy pup. And at 95 lbs, that's a lot of zoomie puppo. So, when we really need him to relax we've only found one thing that consistently works: watching Chinatown. I don't understand why this calms him, but I'm glad for it.
I used to use Hall and Oates whenever I needed a couple names to round out a multiple choice exam. Kept a running tally of whenever they were chosen. Here, too, Oates got the short end of the stick.
Last week on this very same dogwalk, we saw a murder; this week, it seems like everybody herd.
We were on our usual dog walk, just minding our own business, when it happened: we saw a murder.
More from today's dog walk: the trails behind the house are pretty wonderful, especially when you see ducks in the river. On this, Grover and I agree.
On today's dog walk we were with 10 feet of a fairly big deer and didn't even see it until it ran off in front of us. This has been Grover's expression ever since.
Maine wild blueberries, specifically the ones growing where my yard meets the woods.
On today's dog walk, Grover finally noticed the neighbors on the other side of the fence.
Wild blueberries where our yard meets the woods. There are little pleasures in rural life, for certain.
