It definitely depends on the jazz. This one got a resoundingly negative review from the resident feline. I think my guy is more of a Bill Evans fan.
Even my cat is getting something out of this Curvebender release of the George Martin scores
A couple of years ago I did this MIDI recreation of the Eleanor Rigby strings for an online class I was teaching. The purpose was to be able to play each instrument in isolation. Now with three volumes of George Martin score manuscripts, I'll be doing a lot more of these.
With some of George Martin's scores in hand I'm entering them into Musescore to prepare detailed MIDI mockups, where I have much more control over expression, but the MS playback is pretty good for reference.
My copy of the George Martin Scores just arrived. I’m going to be busy for a while!
Part of the fun of making the podcast is in discovering how sometimes disparate or obscure things are connected, and I love books that do the same. I'm just finishing Stephen Greenblatt's Will In the World, which also connects the dots (for Shakespeare) in a similar, very satisfying way.
Rewatched this recently because I needed something old fashioned & charming. Seems like an absolutely lost world now (except for the mens' attitudes, which chafed a bit), but still gorgeous looking as ever. Professionally obligated Beatle connection: Larry Adler later worked with G Martin

As my slideshow reels of Beatles isolated vocals have gone viral over on Instagram, the interactions have been overwhelmingly positive, which is a small miracle considering what often happens when things go into the hundreds of thousands. Let’s call it Beatles magic.
