Oh and invest in an ID Badge shaped hole puncher. That way you can get the plastic snap holders and clip them to any lanyard. It distributes the force better and won't risk ripping through the badge hole over time.
These were my 2025 and 2023 badges respectively. And we cut them out along the edge before laminating. Irregular shapes just make cutting out the laminate fun cause you need to leave enough on the edges so it doesn't peel. And avoiding sharp 90° corners and sharp edges.
You don't wanna go too big. What's the art your wanting to use cause that's can help determine size. This was my 2024 MFF badge and it was postcard-ish size. Post card size meaning like 4in X 6in. If it's more of an irregular shape you'll want to make sure it doesn't end up to wide.
