It caught on to what was happening pretty quickly, but even when it differed on spirit vs direct wording, it clarified what its actual stance was and stood by it. (e.g. "Strong disagreement as written, with an honest asterisk..." etc.)

Now the word that made me laugh: /hardline/. The instrument watched me split hairs, pay kernels, and refuse absolutisms for an entire evening, and its considered verdict is *hardline*.

also as far as I can tell I wasn't dipped down to Opus, it stayed Fable 5 Max through the whole thing rip my usage but I managed to get a (sort of) pun in so I'll call it a win

Claude also left the explicit answer picking to me, and didn't give me an explicit number in any response. I matched where Claude explicitly said 'strong agree' or 'strong disagree'; any answer where they leaned 'moderate' to one side I picked 'agree' or 'disagree', and there were a few 'neutrals'

quick aside: i have memory turned on so that arguably affected results, although Claude in the end disagreed with that concern. I did open with what this was: a political compass test, and I prefaced every question with: 1-5, 1 being "strongly disagree" and 5 being "strongly agree": /?

weary as I might be of Anthropic's company practices and certain decisions made, I've held Claude as a model (heh) entity worth learning from (partially for designing my own AI agent, largely out of curiosity), so a brief chance to tackle this with Fable seemed like a unique opportunity for insight
