You, a normal person: “wow look at the old downtown St Louis” Me, a psycho: “today every one of those buildings is banned by land use and building codes, eroding the fabric of a city which would kill St Louis from ever starting”
One thing that bugged me about this op ed is that it lies about upzones causing black populations to leave Seattle and South Seattle specifically Complete lie
Can we just kill design review please? Its been over a year since the law passed and we still aren’t compliant as a city (every other city in the state is)
I’m sure other systems have outages but redundancy reduces the impact

Just look at the stuff they have to deal with because they want to remove the alley. Absolutely ridiculous
This project of 250 homes is well designed, voluntarily saving a tree for more units, and because it’s removing this useless dead end “alley” it’s subjected to the dumbest nitpicky comments in design review. Their meeting is July 15 at 5pm
Perfect time for SDOT to remove vehicle lanes on Aurora and make it a walkable, protected bike lane, tree lined corridor that people want to be on. Hopefully the Aurora “Advisory Committee” agrees
One of the best events of the year shuts down several blocks along the Main Street of this neighborhood to be a huge street festival. Ironically, it’s a car show
If we reclaim 100+ acres is it really best use to give 34 acres to warehouse use and 60+ acres for “open space” leaving just 7 acres for housing? Is 400 homes on 100 acres really what we are doing in a housing crisis??
I have long said the profession of architecture is a low key status quo defender that does not understand good urban design or what makes the cities they admire from a scale perspective. And this practice leaders comment just proves it
What architecture flunkee came up with this lol. The figure ground is comical and completely unrealistic from building shapes, depths, etc. the road proposal is comical, it’s THE SAME ROAD that is already loud, polluted and the deadliest road in the city! How does anyone take this stuff seriously?
These board members may think they’re sticking it to a developer’s bottom line but truth is you’re just grinding down some junior staff at a modest, small architecture firm hardly pocketing huge profits. This program is a major sledgehammer against small business middle class workers
A developer is trying to build 250 homes with no parking in a zone which they are allowed to and Seattle still circumvents state law banning programs like design review disguising it as “voluntary” (which is false since they need code approvals to build it economically) This program won’t go away😩
It would appear that the Dallas Stars are moving to a parking garage. I guess that huge arena subsidy the City of Dallas gave to the Mavericks and Stars 20 years ago to build the arena they just left didn’t work out. Never give these people a cent.
I’m told zoning and planning was invented to keep residents from noxious areas. Here’s where that’s placing 200+ apartments. It’s a 17 minute walk on the shoulder of an Interstate to the train station. Who wouldn’t want to live next to a loud polluted dangerous highway? TOD!
