The Pin is mightier than the sword
@putdorianedown
Endurance racing, Formula E, feeder series. Occasionally F1. Doriane Pin fan account. Statistician by day, sometimes it shows up here too.
Hypercar jumpscare to liven up your evening.
And Stevens takes Paul position! (The team radio transcripts have not improved).
Another one for my collection of misspelled race control notices
Could have sworn that WEC had fixed all the VANs appearing in the tower but they're back.
Apparently it's Engineering Best Practice though because Lexus were at it too. Otherwise it helps to be in a German car in GT3.
Toyota why is one of your cars so much faster in a straight line* than the other one? Other than that it's Ferrari who seem to have the advantage in the speed traps. *the Interlagos definition of "straight line" is a bit sus tbh
Right having been for a run (inadvisable) and eaten an ice pop (more advisable), let's have a very quick look before/during the slow bit of qualifying at how practices went. There was...not a lot between the various hypercars, though the yellow Ferrari had very slightly the fastest median lap.
Feeder series fans be like this race is 🔥🔥🔥(they held this shot with nothing coming through it for a good 3-4 seconds).
Are you Air Vice-Marshal Trafford Leigh-Mallory because that is a Big Wing.
Quick bite on what I think the BoP is going to do at Interlagos: all the LMDh teams should get some kind of breaks except for BMW, while Ferrari and Toyota should be mostly unchanged (because Spa was the worst of the last 3 for them). Genesis, Peugeot and Caddy should gain the most.
The new USF Pro 2000 chassis looks...shall we say "inspired" by the Tatuus T-326 introduced this year in Formula Regional Europe and Middle East. Which would be no bad thing, as FREC has had some pretty decent racing in between the safety cars!
Realised I'd not watched the last GB4 race of last weekend from Donington. Turns out the drivers weren't significantly less forgetful about things than I was... (you will not be surprised to learn this brought out a red flag)
Huh. 5 is Slater, because of course it is, nothing can actually just work for him. But what is even the penalty for not providing a fuel sample in free practice? Normally you get disqualified from the session but...that isn't even meaningful in this case!
The "big 3" summer multiclass series now all have their calendars out, which combined look like this. A decent job of avoiding each other overall given other constraints. (Also with how oversubscribed these series are these days I've limited sympathy for people fortunate enough to be in two).
Meet the new calendar, same as the old calendar. Well. Barcelona is a month earlier leaving a big gap before Ricard (but otherwise it would have clashed with WEC), and Silverstone and Portimao are both a week earlier, probably in theory to help with AsLMS logistics.
It's supposed to be inspired by McLaren's first F1 car, the M2B, and sure, I can see that, but the effect is somewhat diminished by the vast amount of bare carbon and using something which is almost but not quite silver instead of white
Thought this was a really interesting idea so I threw my own list together then read yours. We mostly agreed, though I have Vanwall for BRM (the first British team to win/the first British team) & I think the Williams/FIA relationship of the early 90s set how innovation is treated in F1 to this day.
Another view of that in case it's not clear quite how much front is missing. Fun to see the dampers I guess.
This is apparently the race for Hillspeeds with missing bits.
Ah I see the rumours Hitech might have figured out how to qualify were definitely a false alarm. (Also, top 5 in the championship almost managing to qualify in reverse order in the top 5 positions but Camara needed be in third not fifth).
I feel like they could just have used the second sentence? But also I have a plan
"This year's event showed us that sections of the Monza Circuit just aren't big enough for GTWC, so we're off to Imola instead". That's gonna work out well for you....
Err, what? I'm aware neither is immediately in a built up area, but it's fairly apparent which one is closer to large population centres.
This is a very optimistic framing of the actual quotes provided. It's only the LMDh manufacturers who are happy, and Porsche sound kinda lukewarm about it: Ferrari: declined to comment Peugeot and Aston Martin both being very diplomatic and saying "well it might work": Toyota hate it of course.
Brands usually runs a shuttle bus during major events which I assume will be the case here. Zandvoort is _extremely_ easy to reach by public transport from basically anywhere in Europe yes; Amsterdam is a major transit hub and it's very easy to do from there (photo: me doing it from there in 2023)
Also, fun fact I discovered when checking the Formula E calendar for WEC clashes. If you go to the WEC website and mouse-over the calendar tab, it brings up a display that just...gets the 2027 calendar wrong? (Correct calendar for comparison)
First Formula E GEN4 calendar dropped. Brands Hatch! CotA at a vaguely sane time of year (maybe a bit cold but better than WEC's approach). Zandvoort! Some of these might actually be good if the GEN4 is vaguely raceable!
