Exploring game design and boldly coding games and tools on NDS. Posting mostly on so far.
Mind if I use #ScreenshotSaturday to invite you downloading and trying the #ndsdev #homebrew demo I uploaded earlier this week ? either pypebros.itch.io/bilou-dreaml... or sylvainhb.blogspot.com/2026/07/the-... would do.
That mimmic-potion would have perfectly fit #InfinitePyramid as a scorpeye companion ... sylvainhb.blogspot.com/2019/11/scor.... To #pixelstudy.
a *WEEK*! But that's *AGES* Thats ... that's before my grand-grand-mother! (not my picture, unfortunately)
Hello, #retrogaming fans and #homebrew spelunkers. (Hopefully the #NintendoDS is a vintage console too, now. Right?) So you're just 2 clicks away from experiencing yourself all the new #Appleman and #FunkyFunghi fun of #BilouGreenZone: pypebros.itch.io/bilou-dreaml...
What if there could be a page that could teleport you to any post I wrote on my blog the last 20 years in just one click ... oh wait. There is ! #retrogaming, #ndsdev, #mario, #zelda, #CommanderKeen or #rayman gameplay analysis ... Follow the white glove ;-) pppteam.neocities.org/blogthumbs/t...
on dirait qu'il y a un truc qui ne marche plus dans le relai des résumés vers bluesky ...
no, I'm rather the stylus type as well ... a pretty fin and short stylus, if you ask ... and used to write the software I think of as I can't get satisfied with the software I've downloaded ^^"
ah. dev' done. I was just missing a speed test in one of the transitions. Now time for an *animated* #ScreenshotSaturday ;) Okay, it's still a bit glitchy, but wouldn't block some playtesting.
#ndsdev #ScreenshotSaturday trying to figure out how my brother manages to soft-lock my game so easily :P
I think #SonicMania would totally fit the tag. @lapperdev.bsky.social would be a key member of #TeamJump17 as well ;)
Suppose there was a #TeamJump17 for #16bit -inspired #gamdev, focusing on #platformers, but using post-16bit hardware ... What game would you want it to feature ? What account should be part of "the team" ?
It was too hot to keep a laptop on one's lap last night, so I did all my #gamedev with my e-ink sketchpad (mastodon.social/@PypeBros/116818310927558620) But that gave me just what I needed for a quick implementation of rolling transfer between apples in time for #ScreenshotSaturday.
Where I've been raised, we don't need streets sylvainhb.blogspot.com/search/label...
and that means most of the checkboxes on that december battle plan are now done! (sylvainhb.blogspot.com/2025/12/funn...)
Edited #FunkyFunghi with #AnimEditorForDS so I could mix&match hat and foot at will and have a transition-animation when you bounce off his hat. (probably barely noticeable :P) Enjoy #ScreenshotSaturday
potato ? I'm not even sure it isn't more lo-res than VGA ^^". Even when we see how they are working, it's still barely helping to see what they're doing :P. But well, it accurate documentation. Thanks ;)
Okay, so I know trying to port #BilouSchoolRush would not work. The tileset, the artwork, the gameplay ... that's not working with 16-bit hardware and #gbadev is yet a bit too 16-bit-ish despite running on a 32-bit CPU. sylvainhb.blogspot.com/2019/09/supe...
and yet in the same game, sometimes they used color swaps just so that a generic baddie could "fit the mood" of the level. And yet one of the swaps stands for "this is an invulnerable zinger, sorry". You'll have to learn recognizing reds in a setup where "default color" may change from time to time.
The most interesting color swap I've met was in #DKC with the Kritters. each color of these guys correspond to a different motion pattern, way beyond "green = fall, red=turn back" we see in koopas. But the genius part is that you rarely see more than 2 patterns/swaps per level, so no overwhelm
When it comes to "bring in more colors", it helped a lot in bringing variety in some locations, but mostly to use the same artwork as either foreground-solid and background-jump-through. It means player may need attention to spot some secret passages that would otherwise have been obvious
One of my biggest use of palette swap in #BilouDreamLand is the ability to share feet and hands sprites between many characters while having each character using its own color or feet/hand. (plus having depth by having one "front" and one "rear" palette. sylvainhb.blogspot.com/2013/03/rele...
but it only show 4 on the timeline and barely hint that you could see more when you click on the post... unsure it will really do what posters hope. (great art, btw ;)
Oh ? Looks like Appleman doesn't like to be used to move funky funghi around... (yeah, I know: you're going to tell me #BilouGreenZone reminds you of #Rayman even more often now :P)
