🇨🇦 in 🇹🇭 since 1989. Founded InHouse advertising agency & Q Bar Bangkok. Cycling, poking around the garden, mucking about in the kitchen. SEAsia Travel Designer at Smiling Albino. Did I mention we have 6 rescued dogs?
Did some deeper exploration of Talad Noi yesterday, Bangkok’s popular old riverside neighbourhood, which I’ve walked and biked through just about every month for 20 years and found some new spots!
Homemade pickled jalapeño goes really well with scallion cream cheese avocado omelette.
Only the second time in my 61 years old today, I’ve had to change a car tire. Happy birthday to me. The first time was in the Nevada dessert – story here: qbarandrew.substack.com/p/10-the-fir...
It always takes me forever to make Tabouleh because I keep stopping to plant leftovers and taking photos and posting to social media.
Was hoping for some rain for our parched Bangkok garden, but once again, it missed us by about 800 metres on both sides. We live in a wind shadow of the city’s skyscrapers. Not a single drop.
Whipped up another batch of Dijon mustard. Canadian mustard seeds make all the difference. The amount of processed food I buy is down to around 5% of my groceries now. Dog tax included. #mustard
Best khanom jeen I’ve ever tasted. Old Sino-Portuguese recipe from Ayutthaya period. 60 Baht (1.80 USD). #Bangkok
The perfect Bangkok traffic storm: Friday night, rain, payday, night before a dry weekend for elections. #Bangkok
Lemon, white wine roasted chicken. Should have discovered this sooner. #dinner
It looks like they are building the scaffolding extra high so they can block the masses gathering at the Kennedy Center from watching them remove trump’s name.
I’m still checking the rain radar and getting on-the-ground reports from Phuket. Horrendous weather continues down there.
Well that was an adventure. Got struck by lightning, fried most of the onboard electronics. After 8 hours trying to fix as much as possible, decided to make a break back to Phuket. Had to head into storm that lasted 4 hours. Engine caught fire. Batteries not charging. Limped into Yacht Heaven 6pm.
Well that was a fun day. Took my car in for new suspension, wife had accident picking me up from Mazda. Borrowed daughter’s car at lunchtime which broke down in Villa’s parking lot. Biked to pickup my car at end of the day and found the clunking sound I thought was broken suspension is still there 🫠
Rewatching ‘The Song Remains the Same’. Woah. Wild intro starring Peter Grant. Also, I believe I drove Jimmy Page’s MGB GT LE sports car down the same lane as at 7:55 into the movie. Great East Sussex road.
I’ve been an Apple fan for 40 years. All my devices are Apple. Great UI and seamless device connectivity. But WTF happened here. Was the designer fired?
Some of the most successful and bountiful plants in my garden sprouted from bird shit, like this two-year-old pea eggplant. I’ve gotten hundreds of small eggplants off it, great for Thai green curry.
