The Joy Luck Club. I read it back in high school but I can appreciate it so much more as an adult.
Happiness Included. Memoir of Brady Bunch actress Eve Plumb (Jan). Nothing groundbreaking, lived a (relatively) normal life. Strong work ethic with boomer parents
Neptune's Fortune. Book detailing one man's 40+ year life's mission to excavate a 18th century galleon. You get it all, and you really root for Roger Dooley at the end just bc of how dedicated he's been despite the mountains of red tapes he's gone (and is actively still going) through.
Sunrise on the Reaping. Started reading this before shit hit the fan at work last week, but Haymitch really became my comfort character in suffering all over again gslkkglklsklgs
Firestorm. I don’t like reading present day books often bc they often frustrate me bc a lot of the times it’s out of our hands, but this time it was this + the journalist just does not focus on anything too into depth and rides on feelings, which doesn’t really help his narrative
The Names. Read for local book club (my pick/tbr). Holy domestic abuse at but it’s still good, very much a modern day a rose called by any other name is just as sweet type shit
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. I really didn’t want to read this when it released bc fuck Snow, but it’s good for context. Anyway, fuck Snow LMAO
Iran's Grand Strategy. Super in depth book documenting, among other things, why Iran's global policy is the way it is and why they have such beef against America (the reasons, while complex, are obviously justified). It's super dry, super academic, but it does give you perspective (unfortunately
The Orphan of Cemetery Hill. Clairvoyant meets guy once when she's a kid and then it's love at first sight 12 years later + spooky elements. Pretty bare bones for me, but there were slivers of truth within the context, so that was cool
To Lose a War. Journalist's collection of articles he wrote regarding the Taliban from post 9/11 to 2021. Nothing super groundbreaking, but a good emphasis of how much America fueled/fucked up Afghanistan's current state
The Chris Farley Show. Biography of Chris Farley mostly made up by interviews by family, friends, and various colleagues. It’s hard to read about a life who loved and hurt so much at the same time. Addiction’s so, so hard to get through, and it hurts so much seeing how much Chris tried and tried
The Dragon’s Roar. Quick book, never got a sequel yet. A lot of shit happens in less than 150 pages but the characters are there. Yes, there are dragons-
The Breath of the Gods. Super comprehensive book about wind and its many concepts. My main takeaway still is that tumbleweeds are technically invasive so nature is so cool
Gideon the Ninth. This really is a dark hill to die on. Now I suffer with a work bestie + long time bestie. I'm gonna have to savor the other books
My Lucky Life in and out of Show Business. Dick van Dyke’s memoir. Truly the definition of a humble gentleman
The Color of Law. Book that highlights how various industries had gotten away with segregation against African Americans (legally) throughout the 20th century. It's pretty informative but sometimes the technical jargon went a little over my head ngl
What Kind of Paradise. Book about a woman recounting her criminal father and how it got to that point. Read for book club last month (I picked it since it was on my tbr). It was really good, absolutely sucked you in. Really good book about finding your own way
Legends and Lattes. It's a quick book, very cozy and cute. I really wish that it was longer so we could get more plot but. *shrug*

History Matters. Collection of essays from a recently deceased historian. It always is refreshing when we bring up the topic that we're so often history illiterate, oftentimes bc historians refuse to use their imagination to make historical events interesting and/or why it matters
Dividers. I have no idea how the fuck I found this through Goodreads ten years ago. I will say it's a fairly unique read. Whatever you expect from the Goodreads summary, think again.
A Year of Biblical Womanhood. Fun experiment of moderate Christian writer interpreting the Bible as literally as possible for a year. It was a good mix of the author’s introspective of modesty and placing herself into deeper diving into scripture
The Price of Salt (Carol). I still haven’t watched the movie but the book definitely holds up. Not me being emotional at 6:30 over lets go lesbians
End of Days. Comprehensive book of the Ruby Ridge standoff, which shortly preceded the Waco standoff. It also mixed in a lot of background/decades of research behind why apocalyptic/evangelical/super right-wing people have become why they are. (which has given me a lot of good reading material/
Midnight Flyboys. Pretty interesting read regarding soldiers + spies that helped out the French resistance during WWII. Also +1 for highlighting some of the women spies as well
The American. So it’s not the most compelling story in the world, but it will scratch your itch of messy 19th century old money vs new money types
The Undiscovered Country. Ngl with y’all I did have trouble reading this just bc it’s just so painfully one sided (white)
