New Harbour’s Reader episode out! We talk about hidden (or not) identities in ASOIAF, with a focus on what GRRM is doing with them (and tropes), and what his readers have been indulging in for years (it’s fun!) Art below by @dr3adlady.bsky.social (commissioned by Lo) and @ Peachyubey (on IG)
Our main takeaways are that Maiden’s Day in Westeros seems very dull compared to celebrations of maidens in France, that harvest feasts exists in most cultures (even if the details differ), and that Lo’s ancestors have quite a lot in common with worshippers of the Old Gods.
New episode! This time we take a trip through our world and the world of ASOIAF to discuss feasts, holidays, festivals and more! We compare celebrations of maidens, harvest feasts, and rituals to end winter. 🍷 www.podbean.com/ew/pb-dsbx5-...
Our manager (Too-ticki the cat) is supervising the editing of our upcoming episode 🎧🐈⬛
Are we ready to talk about how handsome he is, in his cute little chemise and with what seems to be a fishnet behind him, reminiscent of that scene when he declared his flame to Rhaenyra in season 1? Except here it’s the season 3 and his talking about how shit war is 🥺 My sweet knight 🥹
Also, here are the promised pictures/memes mentioned in the episode, telling people that Valborg is the way the bourgeoise try to make people to hungover on May 1st to march for International Worker’s day.
New episode! 🔥 The universe has conspired against us and hindered us from recording a regular episode, but here is a bonus episode! In this episode Lo gives you a taste of what will be coming up in our next regular episode: holidays that exist/should exist in ASOIAF! www.podbean.com/ew/pb-zq4c8-...
Our assistant to the manager would like to know what you thought of the latest bonus episode & remind the world that only Patreon subscribers $5+ get to listen to it. She’s very sweet, but can be a bit more orquish than most cats (I think our friends @winterfellorcs.bsky.social will agree)
Our manager is supervising our preparation for the recording of our next Patreon episode! 🏰
NEW EPISODE! Have you ever wondered what a non-book-reader might think of the A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms show? In our wrap-up episode about season 1 we’re joined by a show-only fan to get that perspective, and we all discuss what we thought of the season. ⚔️🛡️ www.podbean.com/ew/pb-kyxtj-...
Look at our manager’s assistant, hard at work to make sure editing is done right for our upcoming episode
You dreamt it, it’s here: Our coverage of S1E1, wherever you listen to podcasts 💟
Also, can we please give a massive round of applause to this fashion icon who got done dirty by being mentioned more when dead than alive??
Posting from beyond the grave: please be aware that this reply to a comment on a reddit post about House Beesbury has killed me, of laughter We’re so back! 😂🐝
So, what did we think of this season finale? Are we crying? Are we looking forward to season 2? We’re in this together 🫂
Also, HotD season 3 has a trailer dropping tomorrow and it’s announced it will air in June. I guess HBO wants us to get mighty excited (they may just be distracting us from that flashback) (it could work, provided the trailer is good)
unclear whether you can see the thumbnail so here it is included, as well as bb boy who didn't quite know he knew what would be up in this episode
Watch out for the newest word of the English language: open-eying. You’re welcome 😂
Been talking #aKot7K S1E2 & himbos all evening -for you dear patrons (you’ll get your bonus episode tomorrow) and with @lagardedenuit.bsky.social for the weekly livestream of the French community. It’s an honour to be able to explain the science of himbos in two languages
I just watched ep 1 of AKOTSK and cooed “himbo” so many times 🥹 Even this aside, it is a great episode and I can’t wait to see the rest! We record our review episode for Patreon supporters tomorrow, to share deeper thoughts once we’ve both (re)watched it at a time of the day that allows for it -V
One of your hosts was at the French launch of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and as much as there was not a single image shown that she hadn’t already seen in the trailers, she is 10 times more excited than before (also, she got to hold a 13thC helmet reproduction and learn a ton so that’s amazing)
Felt the need to share these pictures too: 1: public fountain at the alleged site of Saint Erik’s death. 2: statue of Saint Erik in Uppsala cathedral, with his armour and crown. 3: Nazi marsch in Stockholm, where Saint Erik in armour can be seen on a banner (photo by Emanuel Hendal)
New episode! Join us as we discuss religious figures in history and ASOIAF, miracles, the value of a good story, the conflation of Brandon Starks, and how women can find power in a patriarchal world through religion. 👼🏻⛪️🧎♀️➡️🚣🏻♂️🤴🏼 www.podbean.com/ew/pb-hvfdj-...
How many times did you watch the trailer this weekend? You can be honest. This is a safe place 🥰 We watched it multiple times (and Virginie streamed about it with the @lagardedenuit.bsky.social and didn’t even coo over how cute they are the whole time through) ARE THERE NO TRUE KNIGHTS AMONG YOU?? 🔥
These are some of the ASOIAF characters we talk about as comparisons to the historical people! Picture 1 and 3 by @dr3adlady.bsky.social , picture 2 by @sanrixian.bsky.social .
Two of the potential trans saints we talk about is Saint Eugene/Eugenia and Saint Marinos! Here depicted as a statue and a painting from a chronicle.
New episode! This time we talk about something that’s v on brand for us: Gender nonconformity in history and ASOIAF! We discuss everything from genderfluidity during the Viking age to Joan of Arc, trans saints, and ”gender criminals”. And Brienne, Arya, Alleras etc! www.podbean.com/ew/pb-kksht-...
