Wow, ten year anniversary of Guardian: The Lonely and Great God. This is one of my favourites, although I watch it as a bromance because for me personally the romance plot just doesn't work (for the same reason a lot of vampire stuff doesn't do it for me). The bromance though is 😻.

I think the piece of art that had the most impact on me was the violin door at Chatsworth. You go through yet another too ornate room, and through a doorway you see a plain violin hanging on a wooden door, very simple. Then you realise it is trompe l'oeil. I burst into tears and I wasn't sure why.

I'm done for the day, it's just too hot in my little top-floor office even with fans on. I've lived in California, NM, Arizona, and Florida...and the UK summer is totally kicking my ass.

My dad used to have an old Underwood that was supposed to be mine, but of course it weighed a ton and I couldn't afford to ship it to the UK. I loved it though.

It was so hot this afternoon (even with all of the fans on) that I put a blue ice pack into a gift bag for our cat Luna and she's been hugging it like her child for hours. :) That's her special comfort cardboard box behind her.

We played some Conan Exiles Enhanced (the new UE5 update) and everything is so very gorgeous. I have something like 900+ hours in this game (when really stressed, I start a new game and just build and break rocks) and this is stunning. Not my photo, stolen from the web to show the difference.

We've finished all objectives in Windrose and I'm kind of sad. It was so much more fun than I anticipated, really enjoyed it.

The Hexi expansion in Where Winds Meet is both gorgeous and it's made me actually cry several times. I'm also reading about ancient Chinese history because it's so firmly based in actual history and lore. I mean, sure there's fart jokes but there's also a love of history, stories of love and loss.

Warmup from this morning: Morrigan. In other news, I woke up this morning with an inability to focus on my computer monitor or my drawing tablet, which is worrisome. Hopefully it just has something to do with eyestrain caused by reading Alix Harrow's The Everlasting under the covers last night.

I was watching TV at lunch and there was a creepy trunk in someone's attic that was identical to the one my great-grandmother brought to the US. I always loved it so much, it was the one thing I wanted from my parents' house, but by the time they died I was already in the UK and couldn't ship it. 😭

Awkward phase. Still relying on reference images on a bottom layer, then blocking with basic flat color, then layers of shadows and highlights, then the sketch layer. Probably not the right way to do it, meh.

Personal practice which I'm going to call imperfect but done. This uses some photo references for areas that I still find difficult (face, damn contrary hands) and I'm trying to mitigate my scratchy drawing style into something a bit more painted. Mixed results, but it's a start.
