These are grass fed polled Herefords. Took this picture in our field a couple days ago. We have been in the beef cattle business for more than 30 years. Grass fed is a marketing strategy -- it was developed to help small farmers COMPETE with factory farms.

My neighbor is an Organic Valley dairy farmer (third generation dairy farm). Their cows go into the barn twice a day to get milked, the rest of the time they are out on the fields. Fields are rotated. They also do get silage - which is a nutrient rich semi-fermented grass.

Brown cows approve.
