A hotdog where it's not actually a hotdog but a big bastard mozzarella stick. Panko crumb, ketchup, mustard, skewer for holding, Melon Fanta on the side, preferably in the food court in Tokyo Dome City on a slightly overcast day before going to a wrestling show in Korakuen.

Korean-style cheese dog (the kinda that's just a cheese stick) covered in ketchup and mustard. Served on a stick. Guaranteed to make a mess.

I really enjoyed playing YuGiOh Duel Links- it was one of my 2020 lockdown distractions. However, I've had far more joy finding and building the decks I made on the app in real life, and finding out exactly how much fuckassery they create despite being way behind the times. (Link? Pendulum? Nope.)

Author's Gravekeepers Deck, with Fusion cards as the extra deck. A whole lot of fuckassery with spells and traps that prevent opponents from activating card effects from the graveyard, preventing monsters leaving the graveyard and can even prohibit special summons. The Gravy Bois are very old-school but hold their own pretty well against modern setups.

Author's Superheavy Samurai deck- a fun gimmick deck that's purely based around silly little robot pals. No spell or trap cards present, just effect monsters who can do all kinds of nonsense like auto-summoning, shuffling graveyard cards back into the deck, using opponent monsters as tributes etc. Synchro summons are here and can get very silly very quickly with the various effects.

Show me that weird game no one played that you love. Here we go again, me talking about my favourite obscure JRPG, Oriental Blue: Ao No Tengai. No (official) western release and only on the GameBoy Advance, a really fun branching-path actions-have-consequences game with some gorgeous pixel art.

The author's copy did not come boxed as it is a bootlegged ROM translation but plays perfectly and this doesn't feel like stealing as it's a 20+ year old game on an outdated system that didn't get a full worldwide release and has never been rereleased onto a more modern platform. Author's copy of the official guidebook for Oriental Blue: Ao No Tengai, found in a videogame stall in Nakano Broadway and excitedly purchased. Since there's very little information online about the game, and the branching path multifaceted nature of the story makes it a bit confusing, this feels like an essential purchase or else you're spending the entire game trial-and-erroring your way through every mechanic which gets tedious after a while.

Ahh crud. Time for the saddest part of the game. This scene probably wouldn't work nearly as well if it wasn't from the perspective of the Lil Guy who's going through an existential crisis, coming to terms with his own limited mortality and learning about grief. Gonna be feeling this all day now.

Look at him, he's just a sweet Lil Guy with Big Sad Eyes. I totally get why this game got a lot of pushback for being so stylistically different from VII and VIII (a regression, folks would incorrectly argue) but in terms of writing and worldbuilding it's a masterpiece.

I've not played this game in about a decade and while some of it I could recite from memory, there's parts that I'd forgotten- I'd actually forgotten how long Disc 2 is, and there's a couple of points where it feels like the narrative/gameplay flow stops dead for no real reason. Even so, still the greatest videogame of all time for me.

After this, I might boot up Final Fantasy VII. Or XII. Or maybe pick up a second-hand copy of either Vice City or San Andreas. Must grab a second controller too so folks can come and play Tekken 2 or Here Comes The Pain or Crash Team Racing or whatever.

My and my buddy were on the very back row of the floor risers so we stood up the entire time (didn't get told to sit!)- the sign wasn't big or ostentatious but you could see it on hard cam! THANKFULLY our good-natured nonsense rubbed off onto the nearby sections and folks joined in with us 🤣

This match was obviously meant to be a quick squash for the Total Bellas reality TV show, but instead because this oddly competitive match with Miz playing face and clearly loving it. The sign is on broadcast and even in background shots of the accompanying documentary. I'm still proud of this.

The author playing American Bass Challenge (a Gameboy Advance title played on GameCube via the GBA Player) last night because he couldn't sleep. The author is not very good at this game but appreciated the simple, almost ambient gameplay.
