It’s been an embarrassingly long time since I have found a Ringneck

A hand holding a Diadophis punctatus punctatus, a southern ringneck snake (technically a northern/southern intergrade). It is. Small dark gray snake with black markings, a black and orange belly, and a sight broken yellow ring around its neck. These snakes mostly eat invertebrates and very occasionally a small vertebrate like a salamander.

Fiddler crabs on the shores of Delaware

This is an older photo but still one of my favorites. A classic Pine Barrens Timber Rattlesnake on the crawl. #NewJersey #Wildlife #Herpetology #Herps

A Timber rattlesnake, Crotalus horridus, crawls forward on a not so busy road in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. Its head and face are facing forward and in focus and the rest of its body is more obscured in the background. It is a classic “Pinebrake” phenotype where it is a yellowish brown and somewhere between a canebrake and a northern timber.
