3/ Visiting the Basilica of St. Clare I was moved by the relics from Francis and Clare's time - tunics Clare wove by hand for herself and for Francis; and Clare's long hair, which Francis cut off when, at the age of 18, she took vows to follow Francis. Almost 800 years later, it is still golden.
2/ I've never felt "holiness" in one place as I felt at this spot where Clare died.. Although I knew a little about Francis and even less about his faithful disciple Clare, I felt an incredible presence of warmth and joy in San Damiano, the place she had lived for 41 years.
Aug 11 - Feast of St. Clare of Assisi. Almost a decade ago, we visited Assisi on our 10th Anniversary trip to Italy. One of the most spiritual experiences I've had was visiting San Damiano, the church St. Francis rebuilt himself and made into a covent where St. Clare and her first nuns lived /1
Added kettle bell to the workout today. Did I mentally yell “I have the power!”as I lifted it above my head? Yes. Was I secretly disappointed when lightning bolts didn’t transform me into a muscle bound warrior in a furry loincloth? Also yes.
Waiting for the elevator on the parking level of our building, Chester caught sight of himself in the mirrored wall next to the elevator door. He apparently is delighted by himself. #DailyChester
Whether I’ve been gone 10 days, 10 hours or 10 minutes his welcome home is equally enthusiastic. 💕 #DailyChester
The Dominion Society of Canada is a far right, white supremacist group advocating deportation of anyone not “heritage Canadian” (Anglo- Celtic or French) founded in 2025 by Daniel Tyrie, Greg Wycliffe and Ken Jones Wylie was “outed” as pro-Pride and formerly worked for an LGBTQ radio station. /1
Ok, so…I have thoughts. First let’s state the obvious. Some men (even Christians) lust after other men. And this photo is as homoerotic as anything I’ve seen on Instagram. But that’s not the major issue. This attempt to “protect men from lust” makes all the classic errors of purity culture. /1
Everytime we get into the same car, James and I realize our very different interests. Yesterday the CarPlay connected to his phone and a podcast on AI technology. Today we got a podcast on a new book on Jane Seymour, Henry VIII’s third wife. James: So sick of the Tudors. Me: So sick of Anthropic
Rest in peace Lloyd. My memories of childhood are reading in bed with a flashlight way past my bedtime, and when I’d hear your signature sign off after the 11pm news, “And that’s the kind of day it’s been.” I’d turn off the light and pretend to be asleep, since I knew parents would coming up to bed.
Ugh. I am SOOOO tired of this woke crap. Everyone knows that Mary Todd Lincoln was a WHITE gay man. 😂😂 Apologies @bowenyang.bsky.social
Although I don’t really do “long weekends” (like the Dowager Countess, clergy often ask “What is a weekend?”) it was still very nice to finish this holiday Monday with dinner on the patio of a neighbourhood staple - Le Select Bistro.
A lot of people don’t know this but social media algorithms de-emphasize the people you follow to push new creators instead. On Instagram tap the Instagram logo, which gives a drop menu. Select “Following” to ensure you see the accounts you follow, not the ones Instagram wants you to see.
And once again, the one member of the household who was up at 5:30am is taking photos of the napping other members of the household who likely slept in until 10am.
In my tradition, August 1st is “Lammas Day” - a festival rarely acknowledged now. Lammas comes from the Anglo-Saxon for “loaf mass” when Christians would take a loaf of bread, made from the first wheat harvested, to have it blessed and to pray for crops still growing and the harvest still to come /1
