Clergy, wannabe musician, Doctor Who💙💙, dabbler in watercolors. Longtime resident of Cascadia trying to make sense of the wonders of Appalachia. Call me woke, feminist, heretic, professional agitator, wine mom...she/her Let's make this world beautiful.
When you live in a small town, farm & garden generosity is a part of life. So someone may share a dozen eggs with you while you're sitting out at the brewery. Or...you're waiting for your iced dragon green tea at the local coffeeshop & bookstore, and someone offers you some beautiful tomatoes. 💚💚
28 years ago today I was ordained to ministry with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). My parents traveled from Illinois to Oregon to celebrate. Behind those flowers I was very pregnant! 18 days later, my son Ben was born! ❤️ (I especially love the "go girl" on the cake!)
"Before I end my Letter I pray Heaven to bestow the best of Blessings on this House and all that shall hereafter inhabit it. May none but honest and wise Men ever rule under this roof." upon the newly constructed White House from a letter from John Adams to Abigail Adams, 2 Nov. 1800 if only...
Darn those Facebook memories...from 2013. At three years old he'd figured out how to open the back door by himself! Lol Miss that little stinker.
After an extended visit with his vet, he came home, deemed the inside of the house to be safe, refused his new meds, and went outside for one last security sniff. Satisfied, he laid down in the tall green grass, and with me sitting next to him, went to sleep. Farewell, dear Stoney, you were loved
Yesterday Stoney had a walk in his favorite park, including three extended dips in the creek. This morning he had his favorite treat of cucumber slices, his kibble & freeze-dried liver breakfast topped with broccoli and freshly scrambled eggs.
He was quirky, prickly, mischievous, fearful and unwaveringly loyal. Stoney became the man of the house when Ben moved out for college. He took that position seriously, protecting me against all threats--real, perceived, or completely in his head. From that day forward, he became my dog.
To Stoney (1 April 2013 - 13 April 2026) He was the dog I declared I did not want; the dog whose name I did not choose; the dog who, in frustration, I derided as my divorce dog; and he was, by far, the most expensive dog I’ve ever had.
Me: what should I eat tonight? Social Media feed: have you seen this smashed potatoes and Greek salad dish by Bon Appetit? Me: nom, nom
I cannot explain how much this post both infuriates and grieves me. I've just gotten home from leading an ecumenical Good Friday Tenebrae service, and see this image in my feed. Kyrie eleison.
The #Illini are in the Final Four... Might need to break out the oldest T-shirt I own... Is 1989 considered vintage? 🧡💙
Great turnout for #NoKings today in Morehead, Kentucky. Crowd stretched out along a full city block.
A year ago I finished my last radiation treatment for breast cancer. I walked to treatment daily, and on my way back I would linger to birdwatch. To me the birds were my cheerleaders, keeping me going. Today after a good report from my med team, I walked home to a chorus of birds. 🐦 Life is good. 💗
Our local library has a seed library for residents. I visited two weeks after it opened, and there were still many to pick from. Here are my selections. Limit of 20 packets per person.
In the big scheme of things this seems a small act of defiant hope. The community Peace Pole our church ordered arrived yesterday. It has May Peace Prevail on Earth in eight languages on it. This spring we'll install it permanently outside in the garden near our labyrinth.
At BSK Theological Seminary for the 2026 E. Glenn Hinson Lecture with Dr. Claudio Carvalhaes.
Saturday #baking. Two small loaves of Mark Bittman's Rich Golden Bread recipe.
Every Thursday night at the brewery two blocks from my house... There is live jazz. And great beer.
