In Ankara, Trump boarded the old Air Force One jumbo jet in view of television cameras. He was secretly shuttled minutes later to a smaller plane — an Air Force C-32A — via an airport catering truck typically used to load meals and other supplies preflight, according to the U.S. official and corroborating material reviewed by The Post.
That made Air Force One a "decoy" with media and some White House staff aboard, the official said.

Trump had been in Ankara for a NATO summit with world leaders. The operation occurred a night after U.S. forces renewed military strikes on Iran at Trump's direction following a breakdown of negotiations between Washington and Tehran to end their months-long war.

The conventional story about Canada and the tariffs is that we're in a hard trade fight with an erratic partner. It's painful and we tell ourselves that it's probably survivable. We see it as something to be negotiated, concession by concession, until a deal is struck. It's a reasonable reading but what if we're wrong?
So let's also ask, why?
The tariffs first came to stop the flow in fen-tanyl. We appointed a czar. But why? — when almost nothing crosses the northern border?
Then came dairy and digital taxes. Now it's forced labour. Why, when our laws outrun most of the world's?
And last week, it was the wildfire smoke drifting south, which Trump called "wilful negli-gence" and vowed to bill back through the tar-iffs. As if Canada could be charged for the direction of the wind.
When the reasons multiply until they include acts of God, the reason was never the point.

I'm saddened to see the transcript of the CBS News morning editorial meeting.
Bari Weiss knows what she said is not true. In the meeting on Tuesday, in which 1 was effectively fired, there was no effort of any kind to "find a way back," as Weiss said in the editorial meeting. At no point did anyone in the Tuesday meeting suggest that there could be steps taken by either side that would lead to a resolution. Weiss and Tom Cibrowski were openly hostile from the start. "Firing" was raised by Cibrowski in the first 15 seconds. No CBS executive, at any time, suggested "a way back." To say so now is disingenuous. And they know it.
In fact, Weiss, Cibrowski and Nick Bilton refused to answer my questions. I asked Weiss a number of questions about why she fired the entire senior staff of 60 Minutes a few days before and without cause.
"I'm not answering that question," she said.
I asked why she did not come to 60 Minutes' offices to explain her actions.
"I'm not answering that question."
Why did she fire 60 Minutes Executive Producer Tanya Simon?
"I'm not answering that question."
Why fire correspondent Cecilia Vega?
"I'm not answering that question."
Why fire correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi?
"I'm not answering that question."
Throughout the meeting, the CBS executives were abrupt, dismissive and uninterested in dialogue.
Suddenly, and to my surprise, Cibrowski declared, "This conversation is over!"
"Why?" I asked. "I'm happy to answer your questions."
"This conversation is over!" Cibrowski repeated, raising his voice and standing to show me the door."I'm happy to keep talking," I added.
No constructive dialogue was allowed by the CBS executives at any point. I was stonewalled for about 10 minutes and then, for no apparent reason, "This conversation is over."

@timmiller.bsky.social According to a Washington Post opinion, the fiasco in Iran has the potential to go on for 18 months or more because of mines in the Strait of Hormuz. The US doesn’t possess the ability to remove mines, so Trump needs Iran’s goodwill.

Screen time has become an unexpected problem with my concussion, now in its fourth month, but I read a fascinating story on one aspect of the Trump-Netanyahu War.
Mines. How very WWII of Iran.
Mines are almost impossible to detect and require painstaking search and destroy missions. Iran has laid mines in the Strait of Hormuz. Or they can say they have. No ships will venture forth until they have a guarantee from Iran.
The US only cares about new technology. It can't disarm the mines. NATO can.
Of course, Trump pissed all over the alliance for 15 months and hinted today said he wouldn't defend Article Five, the mutual aid agreement.
Even with modern minesweeper technology, it would take 18 months to clear the strait.

I have been told that few people have been able to "ace" this Examination and, in fact, most do very poorly, which is why many other Presidents have decided not to take it at all. Despite all of this, the time and work involved, The New York Times, and some others, like to pretend that I am "slowing up, am maybe not as sharp as I once was, or am in poor physical health, knowing that it is not true, and knowing that work very hard, probably harder than I have ever worked before. I verified that this contest is real. I remember how much I loved growing agar cultures as a young microbiologist at @dalhousieu.bsky.social. These images are the best thing I expect to see all week.
