Another ground target in between… ICM 1/72 SdKfz 222. Assembled in an afternoon. Good fit, but some sinkmarks needed to be treated on the turret. Added Peilstangen (in english?) to the mudguards. Ready for primer. #histscalemodels #72scale
Weeks later…ready for another layer of primer/filler. Also worked on the intakes. They‘ll be painted dark grey/black just to create the illusion of depth. I used Perfect Plastic putty, let that dry, then shaped and smoothed it with a wet foam-tipped thingy. #Histscalemodels #72lab
A spirited A380 flying display at Farnborough in 2010. The sun was just breaking through the clouds after a mighty rain shower.
Another very good book on the subject of designing a STOL jet transport is this one. #AviationBookClub
White metal props need some filling snd sanding treatment as well, using a DIY belt sander.
Works for now. As always, it‘s the next model that will benefit from the experience that would have been needed on the current one. 😉 #HistScaleModels
Adding the inlets to the nacelles, just behind the propeller hub, using brass tubes. Wish I had found thinner walled tubes, but they will be worked down in the end. But first they need to be cut back…🫣 #HistScaleModels
Blending in the so-so-fitting vacform canopy, careful to maintain the interior color first layer on the outside. Found old Humbrol cans of ANA611/FS34151 from the 1980s and 1990s respectively. Both still work! I have secured a stash of the legacy Humbrol thinner formula in time. 🤓 #HistScaleModels
The AW139 tail rotor, fully articulated type with elastomeric bearings.
AFAIK, MiG-23S s/n 08 c/n 220001013 was the only one ever deployed to Eastern Germany. Having been damaged in a test, it was abandoned and served as a ground instruction trainer with the NVA at Bad Düben. Below as on display in a museum at Finowfurt in March 2010.
As the Revell kit came semi-assembled without decals, I took turret numbers from the Dragon PzIV Ausf J kit. However, these were quite thick and didn‘t react much to MicroSol. Also I goofed on the position. So I‘ll soak them wet and take them off.
Ready for decals. Two or three fiddly bits still missing. #histscalemodels
I am a tools addict. Got myself a fractal vise, which accommodates conical and spherical shapes. Should be useful for positioning bodies like fuselages, nacelles, drop tanks etc. in a drill stand. We‘ll see… #histscalemodels

CORRECTION: It works with 7 links per sprocket wheel, so the kit provides two spare links! #histscalemodels
By dry fit test, the track segment around the rear sprocket wheel takes eight individual links to meet the other segments. This leaves seven for the front sprocket. The manual is inconclusive on both. I assembled the segments flat with slow glue, then wrapped them around the wheel. #histscalemodels
Had to straighten the warped sidewalls of the chassis with bulkheads to make Revell‘s multi-piece tracks align properly. #HistScaleModels
