Happy #LetterboxdFriday! I actually watched some filmd this week! #LastFourWatched
Newman is perfect in this, as he gives vacillates between cocksure and spent in the pool matches. The brokenness the characters are excellently portrayed and feel deeply human, although the set up is maybe a little contrived. The melodrama of the second weakens it somewhat. #FilmSky🎥
Happy #LetterboxdFriday! You know it's going to be a good week when you have both Kurosawa and Bergman lined up. #LastFourWatched
It's so impressive how Bergman manages to fit so many themes in, in such a succinct way and yet none of it feels like an after thought. The themes of religion, family dynamics and mental health are excellently portrayed. The cinematography in this is great, as always. #FilmSky
Ahh man! This was such a riot of a film! The humour hit so well, the fight scenes rocked and the set design is second to none! I love the playing off of each sides with hilarious consequences and the sheer swagger of Mifune. My favourite Kurosawa so far! #FilmSky🎥
That awful Mickey Rooney character aside, it's charming, romantic and embues loneliness and the lack of identity so well. I don't know why, but Peppard left me a bit cold in this. #FilmSky🎥
The songs and choreography are fab, along with the set design. However, never bought into the central romance and shift in tone between the two halves was jarring. Let's not forget to mention black face, which I will call out inspite of it being a product of its time... #FilmSky🎥
Happy #LetterboxdFriday Two this last week. A wonderful Studio Ghibli film An average Spielberg one
Happy #LetterboxdFriday! I actually watched a decent number of films this week!
Happy #LetterboxdFriday! Just the two this week. Rewatch of the Lost World, as I wanted some Dino carnage. It's chaotic to say the least! Love Ducournau's style and use of music, but the multiple types of genre being played around with didn't always pay off. A little too weird for my tastes...
Happy #LetterboxdFriday Really assured debut feature let down a bit by the final third. The most wild and aesthetically pleasing horror Kaurismäki in London with his wry, deadpan humour.
Happy #LetterboxdFriday! Nickel Boys - Took me a while to get into from the first person perspective, but I really appreciated the restraint used here to depict the horrors of the reformatory schools. Humanist Vampire - Tge perfect film I needed to rewatch this week.
Happy #LetterboxdFriday Slow film couple of weeks, so here's what I watched.
Happy #LetterboxdFriday! Two this week - Double Indemnity was great, Going My Way was not.
Happy #LetterboxdFriday! Finally watched the final Best Picture nominated films - the worst of the selection. A darkly entertaining drama, which will a bit too close to the bone for some. An incredibly well acted noir. Slow and psychological.
First trip to a hamam and it was certainly an experience. I feel beaten up, but in the kindest possible way.
Morning! I got accepted for an ARC, which I'm starting today. Pretty excited by it all.
Is it just me that finds the Dracula/Nosferatu story a comforting watch? Now onto my 7th/8th adaptation of the story... #FilmSky🎥
Happy #LetterboxdFriday! A couple of comfort rewatches, silliness from Monty Python and a pretty faithful Hitchcock adaptation. #LastFourWatched
