I'm thrilled to have received an ARC of The Floating World by Ben Eastham. Described as "a cautionary tale of a young, newly widowed art critic who goes to work for a mysterious billionaire determined to build a geodesic-domed paradise to shelter the rich", it sounds so intriguing. I'm excited!
I'm reading the 40th anniversary edition of Less Than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis and they've changed the text from the original. It's only a minor change - taking some grammatically incorrect grammar and correcting it - but I'm absolutely furious.

And so ends the story of the Calloways. See You On The Other Side didn't have as much wit and cynicism as the first 3 in the tetralogy, but what it did have was an abundance of heart and a sea of melancholy. Whilst it's a departure, it's still absolutely fantastic, and a fitting end to the saga.

I'm between major fuck ups at the day job and hiding from Obsession, I've been re-reading Exhalation, Ted Chiang's second collection of stories. The man is a master. He writes such complex, visibly imaginative ideas in such an accessible way whilst still keeping the stories so entertaining.

I finished Brightness Falls this morning so right on to The Good Life. I normally don't read authors back to back but I just couldn't not; McInerney has such a way with words and weaves such a wonderful story I just had to keep going with the Calloways. And that's having read them both before!
With Jay McInerney having published See You On The Other Side in April (maybe May? I'm losing time this year), the Calloway tetralogy is complete! Before I read number 4, I'm revisiting 1-3. Number one is Brightness Falls, set in New York is the glorious year of 1987 (the year of my birth).
I tell you what Backrooms did remind me of: Control. I feel like if you loved Backrooms, you'll love Control. I loved Control.

I both started and finished this book today - it's only 104 pages so a quick read. And a beautiful one. 18 short stories set in Palestine, all about the lives and hopes of Palestinian women. It's a wonderful tome exploring identity, femininity, and individuality. A must read.
My next read: James by Percival Everett. Let's see what all the fuss is about.
What are you reading this weekend? I've finally got round to reading Jurassic Park and I just say: what's taken me so long? It's absolutely bloody brilliant. I love the existentialism of it, the discussions around life and free will and what it all means. Bloody love it.
To those of you who saw my earlier post about birthday books, I know what you're thinking: You haven't read Less Than Zero!? Indeed, I have! Of course I have, it's one of my all time favourites. In fact, I now own 3 copies!

Finished my 3rd? 4th? Read of HHhH this evening, which is fitting as tomorrow is the anniversary. It's a wonderful book about some wonderful men and women. True heroes, all of them.
