This image shows sunrise and sunset data for Las Cruces NM with the twice a year time change figured in. The focus is on how many days in a year one would wake up or arrive at work in the dark. If we went to permanent Daylight Savings, I'd show up at work before sunrise 120 days a year, mostly in the winter, which, barf.

I do believe we have a few New Mexico Whiptails (our state reptile!) living around the house! My ID is based on its size and the zig zag of the spinal stripe. Cool note: this all-female species reproduces through parthenogenesis!!!

A small lizard with about 3" of tail and 1" of body. The tail is an amazing light turquoise and the body is cream and black stripes of equal width. Back toes are very long. She is very cute.

Happy semihemidemicenni to these two and these two only, who picked July 4, 1976 as a wedding date because everyone could get time off work to come if they had a party that day. Group selfies evade us.

You likely know that I cannot STAND consumer-facing fireworks, which I believe are dangerous and antisocial. In what UNIVERSE is $250 worth of explosives appropriate for these environmental conditions, not to mention in a relatively dense small city? FTLOG, leave it to the professionals.

A drought map of New Mexico. Las Cruces is in an area colored to indicate "abnormally dry," but the majority of land area statewide is dark orange for "severe drought." Some northern and northwestern counties are red for "extreme drought." Anyone who looks at this and is like, let's send on-fire stuff into the air is probably a sociopath.
