British Petroleum, the second largest non-state owned oil company in the world, with 18,700 gas and service stations worldwide, hired the public relations professionals Ogilvy & Mather to promote the slant that climate change is not the fault of an oil giant, but that of individuals. It’s here that British Petroleum, or BP, first promoted and soon successfully popularized the term “carbon footprint” in the early aughts. The company unveiled its “carbon footprint calculator” in 2004 so one could assess how their normal daily life – going to work, buying food, and (gasp) traveling – is largely responsible for heating the globe.

Labour's win in Manchester makes a really solid case for PR. Labour would have won under FTPT but did far better under PR (well a form of PR). What's more, they have a greater share of the voting electorate who can say that they voted Labour. This is how you can begin to rebuild trust in politics.

Proportional Representation is just a generally fairer way of voting as more people get a stake in the outcome and it's less like betting on a horse race or picking your favourite colour.

Tired of being nice…

Hot Take of the day: The massive drive behind AI and specifically the building of data centres is another front on the campaign by fossil fuel companies to lock the human race into oil dependence for a generation.

Estimated electricity demand from data centres globally in 2023 and 2030, according to scenarios laid out by a range of analysts. Some scenarios have been extrapolated one or two years forward or backwards so that they cover the same timescale. We had a fantastic morning at Stroud International Workers Day, showing up for @greenpartytu.bsky.social with Fridays Green Party Workers Charter. Our support for workers rights is heartfelt and honest: we are here to give everyone a life worth living… and a world worth living in.

Luc Besson's new Dracula movie is a delight and a considered retelling of the story, digging into the time between the count being cursed by God and the appearance of Mina Harker in Victorian times (now set in Paris.) Wonderful homage to the Gary Oldman take on the prince of darkness.

The UK government is commissioning a definition of anti-Muslim racism and appointing a "tsar" to oversee it's application. They seem to have forgotten that a definition already exists, that has been widely accepted by institutions, police forces, universities and local government.

This war is a last roll of the dice for Trump - he wants to bury the Epstein files and secure a state of emergency, so that he can remain in the Presidency beyond his term. He doesn't care about you or anybody else on this Earth. He revels in sentencing innocent people to death and craves wealth.
