Update on WIP. Getting color on the background. #WIP #lotus #oilpainting
A new WIP! Naturally I’m going back to lotus! Here in Frederick, MD we had a waterlily and lotus nursery, Lilipons Water Gardens. It closed in 2025. I am ever so grateful for the opportunities to have photographed the gardens. These lotus & lily paintings are done with love & remembrance. #lotus
Signed! “Goober” (c) 2026 Oil on linen board #oilpainting #petportrait
The Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci I saw her at the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC. She was in the center of the room surrounded by Da Vinci’s contemporaries on the walls. No one compared to him! Her skin was absolutely white but full of color! Just phenomenal!
An update on this work! Still plenty of detail to add! #PetPortrait #oilpainting
Finally a peony bloom!!! Best case scenario is 4 blooms for this first season. Hoping for a day with 50+ blooms mojubaolu.bsky.social !
WIP My youngest just lost his buddy of 14 years. A painting in requiem. I’ve changed some details since the reference photo was taken on my couch. Makes the process interesting! #GermanPointer #oilpainting #PetPortraits
I have spent the last few days immersed in my photos of lotus and waterlilies. I have over 300. They are so exquisitely beautiful. So here is a timeline cleanse for you. #FloralFriday #Lotus #Waterlilies #Photography
I was confused at first, as American sycamores have a fluffy globe seed. But then I discovered that European sycamores are related to maples. www.treehugger.com en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acer_ps...
Made a New Year’s resolution to be more playful with my creativity. I still have plans for my serious art but hope to tone down my perfectionism! Here are some of my 2026 art journal entries. I find the gelli plate printing is almost like finger painting! Very! playful! #artjournals #creativity
Starting the New Year with art and lotus! Two paintings have been accepted: “Reflections” & “Pink Sunshine #2.” #ArtExhibit #FrederickCountyArtAssociation #DelaplaineArtCenter #Lotus
#BirdOfTheDay #Outstretched #Photography An outstretched pose! Blue herons can be comical!
“Modern Madonna” (c) 2024 Oil on stretched canvas, 3’ x 4’ My Christmas offering. Light coming through the windows onto a madonna and child for our times, dreaming of a future, a path forward. May a future exist for our children, grandchildren…. #ArtAdventCalendar #OilPainting
“African Elephant” (c) 2018 Watercolor on Arches paper There is always a bit of mystery to a watercolor. In this painting the medium produced a velvety texture creating thick pachyderm skin! I’m not sure I could reproduce it! But I’d like to! #ArtAdventCalendar #Watercolor #Elephants
“Tiger Lily’s Delight” (c) 2019 Watercolor on Ampersand Tiger Lily was the resident nursery cat. She came around for some attention while shopping for plantings. She had very good taste preferring azaleas to several other choices!
“Smith Point Light” (c) 2006 Watercolor on Arches A quick sketch that I later did as a detailed studio work. “Smith Point Chesapeake Bay Light” (c) 2018 Watercolor on Arches paper #ArtAdventCalendar #Watercolor #ChesapeakeBay #Lighthouses
“Kitchen Blues” (c) 1993 Watercolor on Arches paper A quick sketch of scullery items painted in shades of blue and violet with burst of yellow light. #ArtAdventCalendar #Watercolor #StillLife
“Flowers in a Glass Vase” (c) 2006 Watercolor on Arches paper Another floral sketch. I stoped before adding many details concerned I’d lose the glow of the flowers. Wet on wet followed by a dry layer. #ArtAdventCalendar #Watercolor #FloralStillLife
“Roger’s Koi” (c) 2018 Watercolor on Arches paper This koi painting is a companion to yesterday’s #ArtAdventCalendar submission “Lauren’s Koi,” albeit finished quite a few years later. Cousins who were avid gardeners bringing wonder to their backyard! #Watercolor #Koi
“Lauren’s Koi” (c) 2006 Private Collection Watercolor on Arches paper My first watercolor attempt at koi. These fortunate koi lived with a cousin in an award winning backyard garden with their pond as the centerpiece. Hand fed daily! #ArtAdventCalendar #Watercolor #Koi
“Minnesott Beach Marina” (c) 2005 Watercolor on Arches paper Another marina stopover during an intercostal waterway cruise. This spot was tucked off the Neuse River in NC and had the feel of a quiet gunk hole. There were plans to renovate with timeshares, to “upgrade.” Captured before it was gone…
“River Forest Marina” (c) 2006 Watercolor on Arches paper A stop over marina on a cruise down the Intercoastal Waterway off the Albermarle River in NC. I really liked the colored posts of the weathered pier.
“William” (c) 2017 Acrylic on hand moulded paper William is a beautiful, impressively large Percheron who is a professional therapy equine and active member of Transitions in Stride in New Ipswich, NH along with Susanne Riemer and Joe Farchaus. #ArtAdventCalendar #AcrylicPainting #Percheron
Here’s the inspiration piece, “Still Life with Copper Kettle” (c) 1993 Watercolor on Arches Paper
So I forgot to post an artwork for Wednesday! So here, to make up for it, is “Still Life with Green Pitcher” (c) 2018 Sold Watercolor on Arches paper I set up this still life inspired by a piece done in a class. My technique improved over the years. The inspiration piece is in comments.
“Modelling Earrings” (c) 1993 Watercolor on Arches paper A sketch from a live model class. I wish I had more time to add to the depth of the rich skin tones but one has to be quick! Holding a pose must be difficult but appreciated!
