Anyway I finished my last read and started "Moccasin Square Gardens" by Richard Van Camp. It's exactly the kind of book I needed to help me out of the current funk, I think. Van Camp's folksy prose is like catching up with a good friend you don't talk to as much as you'd like, very warm and soulful.

I've always imagined the Virtues in AotKH has having the same kind of sad, ethereal beauty as Amalthea's human form in The Last Unicorn. Honestly she was a light inspiration for how I approached writing them. These tragic, otherworldly beings forced into a state that's all wrong for them.
