Dick McKraken
@rundmc
Dick McKraken isn’t real, he is the split personality of someone more respectable. Husband & father (of kids & dogs). Amateur runner & professional Academic. Probably only 10% as funny as I think I am. @runningpunks
This morning’s sunrise trail run. My camera is set to record 15 seconds every 2 minutes and unfortunately it didn’t catch the terrifyingly wild boar attack (slightly startled piglet) experience.
Woke up in Sardinia this morning (this was intentional, I wasn’t abducted during the night). Mixed up sunrise & sunset times (doh!). I was expecting to run an hour before sunrise but ended up running an hour after sunrise 🥵. Fantastic trail run in the national park before breakfast. #RunningPunks
It is not lost on me that at some point in the (relatively near) future, I won’t be able to do things like this. Curre in diem. #RunningPunks #Running #TrailRunning
6km in the heat 🥵. Couldn’t wait until later because apparently there is some sort of ball - related game on TV tonight. Just time to get hosed down & fed before kick-off. Keep calm & stay hydrated. Best of luck to both teams & their supporters (but mostly England!) #Running #RunningPunks
Mid-run report: Stopped for ice cream at 17km. Hopefully won’t be sick as I start running again 🤮. Let’s find out…
Brought forward the Sunday long run to Saturday as I’m flying over to the UK for day 4 of the 3rd Test against New Zealand at Trent Bridge 🏏. Hopefully there will be lots of runs, just not mine!
Despite the heat, I managed a short run down to the sea followed by a fabulous swim. I had the place to myself except for the entire population of Dublin who had also come down for a swim.
Ran past this development on yesterday’s run. 25 years ago this was a 24 hr LeisurePlex (bowling, snooker, arcades etc). When I was a poor PhD student, I used to clean the place at 3am on Saturday & Sunday. Kids today…. Etc. #RunningPunks #Running #IRememberWhenAllThisWasFields
Early morning run on the island of Jersey 🇯🇪. Nice paths & trails in St. Peter’s Vally. Would happily have kept going but needed to be back in time for breakfast. #RunningPunks
I forgot that I took the camera on a run at the weekend. The video sunshine is in stark contrast to the grey weather outside today. I have two days of board meetings so I’m going try and get an early run in today before my arse is glued to a chair for 8 hours! #RunningPunks #Running
The sky was on fire this morning for the dog walk. It was pretty grey an hour later for my run commute into the office. One of these days I’ll just keep running, past the office, over the hills & far away! (If I win the lottery)
Up early for one last run in North Yorkshire before flying home. Along the River Leven to Stokesly & back. Just me & the birds for most of it (plus one Hare that outran me easily!). #RunningPunks #Running
In seldom used distance units, this morning’s run completed my first ‘Proclaimer’ of the year. Hopefully I will run 500 more! #RunningPunks #Running
Early(ish) hill run this morning to mark the Star Wars bank holiday (May the 4th be with you!). Looks like another lovely day in North Yorkshire. I hope you all manage to get some time on feet today also. #Runningpunks #Running #TrailRunning
I’m glad I took the opportunity to get into the hills yesterday as the rain came in last night. Not exactly UTMB but I really enjoyed the contrast with my normal urban runs. #RunningPunks #Running
My periodic reminder that ‘road fit’ does not necessarily mean ‘trail/hill fit’. 13km of uppy / downy trail running in the North York Moors. #RunningPunks
Schrödinger's Marathon - up until 5 minutes ago I was neither accepted nor rejected from next year’s London Marathon. Now I have entered the ballot I fear I have forced the collapse of the superposition to ‘rejected’ (based on 10+ years of rejection research).
The deeply ingrained instinct of the common shopping trolley is to find the nearest body of water. 17km evening run #RunningPunks
This structure is only a few hundred metres off a road I have run along 100s (possibly 1000s) of times and yet yesterday evening’s run was the first time I have seen it. I had to run past the ‘Bottle Tower’ pub to get there, never realising that this is the Bottle Tower that the pub is named for
Planned a short run to collect a couple of virgin grid squares. Once I found those squares I was reasonably near a mother block of blank squares so I detoured to collect them as well. Once I was in that area, it was only a short detour to another block etc. etc. 17km later, 28 new squares collected.
I missed all of that ( perhaps it was after I left Twitter). Sounds like they compromised on the founding principles….
Post-run refreshment. So without alcohol this qualifies as a sports drink - right?
Another run, another few #Squadrat grid squares claimed. I had to include a respectful visit to the grounds of a local mosque on today’s run to bag a particularly difficult square. There are two squares that I can’t get to as they are behind a 20 foot wall (secure mental health facility).
Run commute into the office with a few detours to pick up 3 more new squares. Obviously it’s going to get harder & harder to find squares that I haven’t visited but I guess that’s the point. Another source of motivation to run further to new places. #RunningPunks #Squdrats
I’m suffering from a man-cold at the moment (slightly less fatal than man-flu) so I wasn’t up for a big run today. Took the opportunity to visit some of the virgin #Squadrats grid squares in my local area. Ran through 9 squares I have never visited before. #RunningPunks Squadrats.com
