Yes. And yes. We saw bear scat. But in all my years there, I have never seen a bear. We met a lady on the trail who saw a small grizzly bear, but she said he showed no interest in her.
Took my girls to Mystic Lake, a spot in the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness in Montana that I visited many times. They wanted to see it. And as you may see from this vid, it’s a stunning spot. Three mile hike up a mtn trail and this clip walking thru the saddle of two mtns is worth the effort.

Visiting Billings w my girls. At a Mustangs game (Pioneer League rookie baseball). And eating the Stang burger (has brisket on top of the beef patty) and Montana’s own Wilcoxon’s huckleberry ice cream sandwich. Natch. Washing it down w Red Lodge Lager and Flathead cherry cider.
I started thirfting my clothes a couple years ago, finding some very nice stuff like Rhone shirts for work, new with tags for like $40. But this. $350 boots maybe worn once if at all, $69. I need to break them in but these will last for life. Resoleable full goodyear welt and thick leather. Killer.
For whatever reason, the girls thought we should have a Takis tasting. And I made tacos for dinner. So we’re calling it Taco Takis Taste Test Tuesday!
I duuno why, but I got a chuckle out of the Garmin heatmap of my 10x200 workout this morning.
I can see a world where Jaxson Dart’s linemen fail to block for him. Making for a short painful career and a long uncomfortable retirement.
Just nabbed these babies to ratchet up interval speed. The Rebel is now my daily shoe and this is for intervals. If this works well, in a few weeks I’ll decide if I want to go all the way down to a track spike or the Streakfly or similar.
I tend to prefer Guinness or Pilsners, and most IPAs give me a headache. Got this 12pk at Costco for $13. Brewed by Deschutes in Bend, OR. Very tasty. Not too much alcohol. Definitely will buy if I see it again. Tho a 12pk takes me a few months to get through at my pace.
My youngest had friends over for her 16th bday, and the dining room became a dance floor for a bit. She has such a nice group of friends. They seem so supportive of one another, it’s great to witness as a dad.
I’m officially a candidate for precinct committee officer for the Dems. It will actually be on the ballot because it’s contested. Me vs a conservadem.
My youngest is 16 today! She’s such a great kid. Absolutely adore her. She requested a “breakfast banana split,” so of course a few sprinkles and chocolate chips on a banana w yogurt were no problem.
A great blue heron decided my neighbor’s house made a good spot to scope things out. Much to the dismay of a nearby crow.
Bummer, but the guy I was going to run with is sick. I won’t be putting these very cool looking trail shoes to work today, then. I’ll lace up my daily trainers and loop Green Lake instead. A run will happen. Connecting with a new person will wait.
My 10x200m workout today. On the Burke Gilman Trail, not a track. I got up too late to hit a track before schools started. My objective right now is just to sorta wake up my body to faster turnover after years of marathons and ultras. In a month or so, I will get more specific workouts for the mile.
Got some new shoes yesterday for my faster sessions. These will do nicely as I reawaken my legs to intervals shorter than 800m. I’ve been doing 8x200 in NB 1080s, and while that’s not horrible, it’s not really a shoe that helps me turn over. These feel more fun.
It’s always nice on a Saturday morning when the watch people you follow have new vids posted. Perfect post-run indulgence.

Bought this NA, yet distilled, bourbon-esque stuff to cut down on alcohol tomorrow. It’s not too bad as a mixed drink like bourbon and coke, and my wife thought it would be “fine” for an old fashioned. But it’s not gonna replace bourbon if you drink it neat, as I prefer.
Very Seattle. I would imagine not that many high school concession stands serve seaweed, banh mi and ramen. Probably easier to find nachos, hot dogs (also here) and popcorn.
