Photo linked in last post is here - it's a bit of test to see if others can access them. Here I'm flying a UAV in Greenland, a current student has done a brilliant job with this data and will be writing it up as a paper. I'm pretty excited by the results too.

It's Europe Day and perhaps fittingly I'm sitting in a sunny garden enjoying the bird song and re-reading this magisterial work by Neil MacGregor. It's about Germany, but it's also about the heart of Europe. Huge recommend.

Anyone have any clue where I can get a measuring tape for sea ice in Europe? The only supplier I have found is the very lovely and friendly Kovacs, but they are US based and the cost and time for delivery are crazy. I mean one like this: #glaciology #seaice #Hivemind #academicChatter

These ice lenses are giving me a tough time in processing today, they're everywhere. But if I believe the satellite data, they also shouldn't exist. It appears we are underestimating surface melt* in Antarctica. *But not runoff! These are refrozen meltwater layers
