Ulysses has a few tough chapters but overall it's not that hard. Finnegan's Wake is, though, so it seems they've been conflated over the years by pop culture. The first pic is Finnegan's Wake. The second, Ulysses. You might not enjoy Ulysses, that's fine, but it's not hard to follow.

Oh and while we're on the Star Trek actors in other roles discussion, Leonard Nimoy is in a top 5 Columbo episode, A Stitch in Crime. Shatner is in two episodes as the murderer, both entertaining even if not as good as Nimoy's.
