So happy to share that Dr. Katie Harris successfully defended her PhD thesis yesterday, with very minimal revisions. Working with Katie has been a major highlight of my career and I'm sure going to miss working with her.
A lot of wild boar/wild pig research identifies water as a vital resource that drives a LOT of decision-making. It really isn't a big deal in Canada in our models but when you see how much water there is across the prairies it is no surprise that it isn't a big deal. This lake is called Pig Lake!
Thanks again to everyone submitting photos of invasive wild pigs in Canada. Despite what you may have heard, any claims that they have been or soon will be eradicated are pure nonsense.

Had a great Father’s Day. Big English breakfast, movie/nap combo, finished garage project, steak and chicken bbq dinner, now the fam will watch the latest WWII movie with me while I aim to stay awake through it all.
This will be my fourth father's day since my dad passed. I think it's supposed to get easier, but it certainly hasn't yet. My best advice is call/visit/hug your dad if you can - one day you won't get to anymore.
Any iButton or other users that can suggest a good unit for measuring ambient temperature in summer in the sub-arctic (+5 to +30C). Cheap is good as I'd like a few dozen ideally. I'm interested in measuring temperature in different polar bear summer habitats they use to get out of the heat.

As it has been every time this time for about two million years, calving season is soon to begin. The caribou have migrated to their summer range and here on the Hudson Bay coast we are hoping for a bumper crop of calves.
