XVI. THE TOWER #commission

a tarot card depicting the tarot card. in the card, two pale characters form both the tower and the figures that traditionally fall from it. a great funerary monument is erected in the background in a barren wood. a card traditionally represented with sudden, chaotic change and loss of self, the characters grapple with these themes as much as the land itself. the land is a graveyard, but also a bed : death and vitality struggle against eachother.

IV OF CUPS #commission

a tarot card depicting the four of cups, featuring two male elves in center. they seem to be confined in both embrace and struggle, as navrys (rear) opens theo's throat with 3 forceps. a tree twists behind them before a reddened moon. in the foreground, a surgical tray with 4 silver cups sit on a stone plinth. the clinical and the organic compete, as well as the emotions between the men. restlessness abounds.

a dark, nautical scene of three teenaged brothers — almire, scelus, and mutilare. almire holds scelus on his shoulders while mutilare dives ahead. scelus and mutilare are injured at the skull and gut respectively, representing their ultimate undoing : mind and bravery. they are lighter in shade, becoming flotsam-like stars that drift up towards a black moon. like a whale fall, these two losses become the subconscious grief that almire's present-day amnesiac mind feeds on. a child's skull floats in the water near his thighs, representing a later loss in his hence-forgotten life. two black stars and two white seagulls parallel the brothers, falling down and in the opposite direction of where they look and swim.
