I’m a grandma in SacTown who loves her family, books, crocheting, cooking and baking, and DEMOCRACY. Black Lives Matter. Love is Love. Immigrants make America better. Miep Gies rocked. Opinionated AF. Navy Veteran. She/Her. NO DM’s.🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈
with the help of all the dictionaries in the house and have loved Arthuriana ever since. I can’t see Guite’s Arthuriad ever being surpassed. The second book in the cycle, “The Coming of Arthur,” is now available for preorder through his publisher at rabbitroom.com and I just ordered it. 2/
I just got this and am enthralled. The rhyme and rhythm of the words is pulling me under the author’s spell as surely as a powerful undertow will catch a swimmer—but oh the joy in the drowning in song!
Mom was also Mom to my seven cousins and their children and grands as both her sisters died early, so the numbers on this marquee are was understated. She was adored by all.
Life is better with a dog in it. Here is Doggo, age about nine (?), on her morning walk in our neighborhood park.
I so appreciate creative people, especially on days like this. (Russia, if you’re listening. . . .)
Wanted: Experienced Taxidermist. Large mammal project. Must be willing to sign an NDA.
Sometimes I want to give up and sink to the depths, then I get a picture like this and find the will to keep going. GrandsonOne (11), facing the camera, is teaching GrandsonTwo (9) to play chess; Grandsons Five and Four (5) are flanking their older brother as they watch the big boys play.
Got a new EV this week—a little Chevy Bolt. Bye-bye, Subaru, and hello to the $300-$400/mo I was paying for gas
I had ordered a set of six of Bridget’s adventures but the cat-loving grandkids talked me out of four of them; these two were the ones I kept for myself.
I did it! I finally did it! I finished organizing my books! My apologies for hyperventilating, but I truly am that excited. Chapter books are still boxed up, but they have to wait til next month because their eventual home will require moving bookcases that are beyond me, so I’ll have to hire help.
This is my favorite picture of my beautiful mother from the last couple of years. She looks good for ninety-plus. I’ll miss her for the rest of my life.
A short video of Mom doing her favorite thing in the world, rocking one of her babies. She’s rocking GrandsonFive, with GrandsonFour making an appearance on the floor.
I have one of these. The Resident Retiree keeps our home too cold in winter and too warm in summer, so hard to keep butter on the counter in an ordinary butter dish—it gets too hard in winter and too soft in summer—but this little thing keeps my butter spreadable throughout all.
GrandsonFive, youngest of our grands, on our coffee table doing a jigsaw puzzle. He came home with us yesterday and spent the night; I’ll be taking him shoe shopping after breakfast.
My mother just passed. I feel like the little tree in this picture—rootless but still connected to the planet by other means. It was several years after my dad died that good books, especially on biblical history, made me think, “I have to tell Dad about this one.” I’m sorry about your dad.❤️❤️❤️
Yet another day without a reason to break out the celebratory chocolate. On the plus side, look at what finally arrived! Our friend @brat2381.bsky.social and I are going to the city Tuesday to hear @chanda.blacksky.app speak. Nothing is more fun than listening to intelligent people talk.
I’m at the point in clearing out where I’m framing and hanging up things I’ve been hanging onto. I don’t like mementos in boxes; they should be out to be enjoyed. These are from GranddaughterOne when she was maybe five. (The first says, “once upon a time in Africa there were a king and queen.”)
@prisonculture.bsky.social Look what showed up in the mail! I cannot wait to read them. Thank you for alerting me to their existence.
I’m wearing this shirt this morning. Got a fist bump and “RESPECT” from a gas station attendant when he asked me who the 92% was and I told him it was the 92% of Black women who voted for Kamala Harris. From our friend @brat2381.bsky.social’s Etsy shop, comingandgoingdesign.etsy.com
This is the six of us with Grandpa Brown on his tractor. From front to back: YoungestSister, SecondBrother (died at 18), NextSister (died last year at 62), me, OlderSister, BigBrother, and Grandpa Brown. 1/
Our local theatre lets people post messages on their marquee. The sibs did this for Mom five years ago.
GrandsonFive has been climbing since he learned how to work his arms and legs. If he’s ever missing, look UP.
