monster on the beach is an underrated micro genre that weirdly attracted this mix of sleaze & style? even mid tier offerings like Beach Girls & The Monster ends up with these weirdly striking images & a lot of night shots photographed actually at night giving it this very odd energy

from about 1959-1964 there was this really striking and unique era where black & white monster films were much more willing to do harsher gore and it WEIRDLY clustered around "monster on the beach" movies like Monster of Piedras Blancas or Horror of Party Beach

it is the BEST gorilla movie they ever made, like once they lock in to that premise it's SO stark and shadowy and artistically shot? it's all this slow intense build as the gorilla stalks its prey through the city & the crooks KNOW they're being hunted by the mangler but no idea what it is

a story in 2 parts

they don't make Gorilla movies anymore and we're all the poorer for it
