lotta interesting challenges with this one that im putting off... gotta figure out what to do for ground displacement/damage from all the rocks im pulling up, and how to make the effects stand out when none of it glows 😩
spent the day wrassling fracturing and collisions. i tried looking into chaos but couldn't get my head around the particulars so i fell back to niagara 😩 which means my pieces don't collide with each other
been exercising all the creative energies at work of late so i chilled out on the personal vfx, but i had a few days off and now im back on my shit
that time of the year again, annual reminder that I'm not one of the cool kids anymore 😩
started messing about with rain, need to do raindrops on the car and the camera lens... Then stick a buncha neon signage or something all over the level to reflect in the puddles
It's some insane luck that for most of my career I've been explaining new jobs to my family as working for 'the people who made that game i was playing back then'
Dunno what the hell I'm doing with this still but it's fun to just drive laps
made this goofy racetrack for my dumb car thing but I can't for the life of me stay on it 😩
With all that out the way here's my current dumb car thing. Always wanted to do dumb car stuff even though I dunno anything about cars or driving
I tried to draw up 2d concepts for things I was making, and to build out an actual art reference sheet instead of just googled images, but that stuff really taxed my patience and I kept abandoning it to skip straight to 3d. I even tried doing the concept as pixel art but still gave up T-T
I kinda limited myself by wanting to heavily reference my hometown of Chennai for the look of the world. Translating the clutter and vibe of the city to a hasty lo-fi playable 3d environment was an undertaking, and I wasn't able to give it the effort it deserved
I eventually hit a wall and realized my current limits, or at least my current patience. Setting up stats and real combat behaviors just felt too big and tedious to tackle and I fell off... But at least I made this unicycle goblin fellow
It held my interest for a really long time and I managed to explore a whole lot of stuff in the process. I tackled environment art, lo-fi texturing, rigging and animation, and scraped the surface of basic game design
Been thinking about my auto-rickshaw mech side project again and I didn't realize just how much I put in and how much I got out of it
probably my last one of these to finish off the unemployment arc. gotta record it all together and stick it on the portfolio page before retreating to my dungeon 😩
I parted out this flare texture from a really big JWST space photo and I keep going back to it over the years. Really attached to the color and the noise of it, and it's fun to know I'm using a picture of an actual star :0
this is how it looks with some sprinkles on top. still not the most impressive or interesting bit out of the ones i've done so far, but i'd gone too long without making a nice beam
Beam wip. Bit of a blank slate at the moment, gotta layer on a whole lotta stuff. I'd completely forgotten how to do the lengthwise fresnel, had to go look it up again 😅
I've always struggled with explosions, need to do like 500 more before I get a grasp of it 😩 #vfx #realtimevfx
started putting together this gate of babylon type thing. need to make the projectile trajectories more interesting, and add some effects flourish to the cast animation #vfx #realtimevfx
I'm using a postprocess material, but to be clear I'm not talking about a real fix 😅 I just happen to be using radial blur like in the image and it makes the artefacting all fuzzy. For a generic fix you could try setting your translucent material to output velocity but that comes with its own issues
combo stage 4 and 5 wip - 4 needs a layer of inward distortion, and 5 needs more impact and a snappy end 🤔 #vfx #realtimevfx #ue5
polished my balls, stubbed in erupting cascade, still got 2 more anims left in the combo sequence so i gotta think up something appropriately climactic #vfx #realtimevfx
