i have been lightly picking at wips this week (trying not to spook myself out of it by just going along when i feel the urge) so here's a lil snip of bodyguards yungisang 💗

Yeosang hogs the bathroom for a while, applying his toners and balms, dazed and comfortably full. He puts on some loose sweats and a shirt that isn't his, and it's only when he's in his old bed in his old room, looking at the curling INFINITE poster on the wall, that he realizes he hasn't slept alone in months.

It should be easy. The sound of rain on the roof and the familiar smells, the sound of his dad shuffling around downstairs and his favorite late-night crime show — his body feels slow and ready for sleep, but his mind still lingers, clinging to the edge by its fingertips.

His cracked bedroom door opens, just a bit. Yunho peers in, hair drying in messy waves, and his expression pulls up into an easy, heart-lurchingly tender sort of thing. "Hi."

"Hi," Yeosang echoes.

"It was an accident," he insists, curling his fingers around the white cloth wrapping his palm as if to hide it. Guilty like a child with an extra sweet he's reluctant to share.

He's exhausted; that much is clear by the way he sways a little on the spot when Hongjoong approaches, the unnaturally heavy slump to his shoulders, his mouth. He offers up his hand without resistance when Hongjoong comes to inspect the dressing, and it's clean and well-secured.

"San," Hongjoong says. "You need to rest."

So Hongjoong doesn't think, in the thin grey light of the morning, that anything is different until feeling starts to trickle up into his mind from the rest of his body.

It's hot, and it's hot because San has his entire self pressed into Hongjoong's back. Chest against his shoulders, knees stacked, hips snug. He has one arm around Hongjoong's waist, and when he starts, mortified, the motion only seems to have the effect of stirring San enough to pull him tighter, the flex of his arm squeezing Hongjoong through both of their bedclothes.

Yeosang is inhumanly patient. It’s clear how often he’s held a bow by the way he knows the exactitudes of how Hongjoong is doing it wrong, and how kind he is by his gentle instruction. “Focus on pulling your elbow backwards instead of outwards,” he says, as if Hongjoong can tell the difference. He flattens his palm against Hongjoong’s joint as he draws the string to illustrate, and his next shot is much closer to hitting the target, arrow bouncing into the cold-crunchy leaves to the left of the hay. “Good.”

“‘Good’ is bold,” Hongjoong insists, mollified.

“You have the strength to hold and shoot it, it’s just a matter of getting it to go where you want, now.”

The arrows seem to have a different opinion. Not one gets close until Hongjoong can feel his own patience wearing thin, drawing the bow string by his grimacing mouth with a twinge in his jaw as he clenches his teeth. He closes one eye, looking down the arrow shaft, and lets go on an exhale.
