Watched the 1966 western The Professionals last night, about four men on a mission to rescue the kidnapped wife of a wealthy Texan, and yes - these are the guys I would hire if I needed to get a job done. One of the best cinematic teams ever assembled? Yup. This film is a lot of fun.

Enjoyed this section in The Plunge, which talks about a study conducted that assessed the impact of cold water on healthy adults. The water - 68 degrees - is cold, but I was swimming in water that was three or four degrees cooler just today. It's nice to know this might be good for me!
I also like the 1972 Jacques Demy film "The Pied Piper," with the folk singer Donovan as the piper. It is not as brilliant or creepy as the Czech film, but it has a certain vibe that I found appealing.
The 1986 stop-motion animated Czeck film "The Pied Piper" is brilliant and creepy; I highly recommend it.
I have driven past this sign every day in Maine, and it cracks me up. Would you want to send your child to the pied piper preschool? Or would you be afraid they would disappear, never to return?

Took a trip to NH’s White Mountains to visit Oliverian Everlasting, a conservation burial ground on 30 acres. Oliverian does green burial, while also preserving land and habitat. The burial ground is new - so far, there has been one burial.

Just got to section II, which opens with a discussion of the wonderful Roger Deakin book "Waterlog," in which Deakin, an acolyte of wild swimming, chronicles swimming across England in ponds, rivers, ocean and more. I read Waterlog four or five years ago and loved it - it inspired me to swim more!
So I have gone swimming in the Maine ocean and it can be pretty cold. The water was relatively nice today, 64 or 65 degrees, but I have gone in when it is in the mid-50s. Anyway, the cold water swim feats described in this book give me the chills just reading about them.
