“Moderately inspiring” Bailey, 2023 Previously the (Labour) Member of Parliament for Ilam, Aotearoa NZ. Former midwife and lecturer. Pro choice. Pro democracy. Pro science. Proponent of kindness and empathy in politics. Yes, politics. Opinions my own.
Returning from grabbing spectacular Matariki pastries and purple wheat sourdough from Jerry and George at The Colombo, we saw the most insanely beautiful TRIPLE rainbow. Full arch double rainbow, with patches of a third arch visible. Crap pic, stunning in reality. ✨ Mānawatia o matariki! ✨
While we enjoy celebrating the Solstice across the world - spare a thought for the poor National Trust workers in the UK who have to move all those huge Neolithic stone circles back an hour.
I did a thing yesterday! Masters in Disaster Risk and Resilience with distinction ✔️ Congratulations to all who are graduating this week - it’s a huge achievement and I actively encourage feeling very proud!
Ruptured an eyeball when I saw this pic. From Moorhouse Ave, Ōtautahi, today. Just a wee tad outside the permitted time for election signage… Rules are for the little people, clearly. #nzpol
By way of contrast, under Labour, NZ was number 4 - with 50% women in Parliament AND 50% of our Ministers were women. Great work*, NZ. #nzpol *sarcasm
Beach of the day - Jersey 🇯🇪edition. I am not in the sea because the moon dragged the tide far far away. This beach is a wild Atlantic beach, usually great for surfing, but you’d never know today! Calm as calm can be.
I think you all need another Jersey 🇯🇪 beach today, ne? Ouaisne today. Mammoths were driven off this pink granite cliff by early humans for a yummy mammoth kai. Yes I am standing in the sea. Again.
Jersey fam represent 🤣 St John is where I went to Sunday school … not my home parish but where we went to church every week. It’s a lovely church. I sewed tapestry kneeler thingies for there when I was a sprog and raised money to rip the concrete off the gorgeous steeple. Was there yesterday!
Would it help all you freezing kiwis if I showed you a beach in Jersey 🇯🇪 from today? It’s Winter here and the sea is pretty darn cold. Why yes, I am standing in it! Of course I am. Pretty though, innit? The bubbles I focused in on are razorfish/clam holes filling with seawater.
Haven’t seen the skies above the SI this clear for a VERY long time! Screenshot taken 1252hrs today. One brave wee AirNZ dashie is approaching Blenheim - it’s since landed safely.
ANYWAY. I’m currently being yelled at by a tree full of deep pink blossom. May I present Tūi birb vs Korimako/ Bellbirb for your delectation. #notpolitics #nature #morningwalk
Sad news. Our darling wee earthquake refugee cat died today. I found her unresponsive this morning, we think she’d had a stroke, and she couldn’t be saved 💔 They are never ‘just a cat’ eh?
Yesterday I went to Franz Josef - and the glacier I walked up to about 16 years ago is, um, gone. Can’t even SEE it from the walkway. As far as situations go, this seems far from ideal.
Remembering with love those we lost in the Ōtautahi Christchurch mosques shootings, the injured, their families and loved ones. Image: John Darroch via Wikimedia commons
The beloved sent me this pic with the message ‘we need trifle?’. Bizarre application of a question mark on this message. I conveyed my disappointment with his punctuation. Trifle is en route, order restored.
connected us and we found the darling wee cat living it up in a student flat, being spoiled rotten with ham slices and general adoration. Food in her belly, meds onboard, she’s now flat out in a puddle of sun. Massive thanks to everyone for your kind words, suggestions and encouragement 🥰
Missing cat - Ōtautahi (Ilam area) Our elderly, unwell and imperious darling wee tortie cat has escaped home confinement and is now missing. She’s half blind, needs her meds and I fear she won’t be able to find her way home. She came to me after the EQ, and we all love her so much. Arrrgghhh 😭
It’s grand sumo time!!! And that means a vast pot of Japanese beef curry has been made - and my rikishi name towels are prepped and ready. Santa bought me Ura, Onosato and Hokutofuji, clearly hedging his bets 😂
I’ve done mine - have you? I was waiting to get less cross - but I have not. This was therefore a cross submission in which I described the bill (not the MPs) as racist and divisive. I may also have mentioned absent moral compasses. Submit here - www.parliament.nz/en/ECommitte... #nzpol
A moment of peace from Aotearoa NZ. Woodend Beach, just north of Ōtautahi Christchurch, with the Kaikouras in the distance. If you look, you can see black backed gulls dropping pipis onto the sand and swooping down to snaffle them up from their newly broken shells. 🔈Sound on!
Young Labour and the Greens have joined up to run a Treaty Principles workshop tomorrow (Sunday) in Ōtautahi, 59 Gloucester St, 1.30-3.30 pm If you can’t make that one, Duncan Webb and Peeni Henare are hosting a zoom session for Labour members on Tuesday. Your LEC will have the details. #nzpol
I loved ‘Dick man’ who counter protested in Otago against anti choice protesters. Fortunately his efforts are no longer needed thanks to Labour’s abortion safe areas legislation.
A potential gift for those opposing the development in Wānaka, as I’m guessing this post might (maybe possibly who knows) trigger an early referral straight to the environment court. What au utter numpty. #nzpol
