Returning from grabbing spectacular Matariki pastries and purple wheat sourdough from Jerry and George at The Colombo, we saw the most insanely beautiful TRIPLE rainbow. Full arch double rainbow, with patches of a third arch visible. Crap pic, stunning in reality. ✨ Mānawatia o matariki! ✨

While we enjoy celebrating the Solstice across the world - spare a thought for the poor National Trust workers in the UK who have to move all those huge Neolithic stone circles back an hour.

A trailer, pulled by a National Trust Land Rover, is apparently loaded with one of the Neolithic stones in Avebury. The field is shrouded in mist and other circle stones loom in the backgrounded. A totally real picture. Actually.

I did a thing yesterday! Masters in Disaster Risk and Resilience with distinction ✔️ Congratulations to all who are graduating this week - it’s a huge achievement and I actively encourage feeling very proud!

Beach of the day - Jersey 🇯🇪edition. I am not in the sea because the moon dragged the tide far far away. This beach is a wild Atlantic beach, usually great for surfing, but you’d never know today! Calm as calm can be.

A long, flat sandy beach stretches into the distance. Two horses stand silhouetted against the calm blue sea with a pink granite Norman tower behind them on a rocky outcrop. The tide is very low, maybe as a result of the blood moon, and you could walk all the way to the tower right now and only get your feet wet. Maybe your legs a bit. I dunno because I can’t be bothered!

Jersey fam represent 🤣 St John is where I went to Sunday school … not my home parish but where we went to church every week. It’s a lovely church. I sewed tapestry kneeler thingies for there when I was a sprog and raised money to rip the concrete off the gorgeous steeple. Was there yesterday!

Would it help all you freezing kiwis if I showed you a beach in Jersey 🇯🇪 from today? It’s Winter here and the sea is pretty darn cold. Why yes, I am standing in it! Of course I am. Pretty though, innit? The bubbles I focused in on are razorfish/clam holes filling with seawater.

Sad news. Our darling wee earthquake refugee cat died today. I found her unresponsive this morning, we think she’d had a stroke, and she couldn’t be saved 💔 They are never ‘just a cat’ eh?

Yesterday I went to Franz Josef - and the glacier I walked up to about 16 years ago is, um, gone. Can’t even SEE it from the walkway. As far as situations go, this seems far from ideal.

A misty valley which used to have a glacier in it, now full of not-glacier.

The beloved sent me this pic with the message ‘we need trifle?’. Bizarre application of a question mark on this message. I conveyed my disappointment with his punctuation. Trifle is en route, order restored.

connected us and we found the darling wee cat living it up in a student flat, being spoiled rotten with ham slices and general adoration. Food in her belly, meds onboard, she’s now flat out in a puddle of sun. Massive thanks to everyone for your kind words, suggestions and encouragement 🥰

Missing cat - Ōtautahi (Ilam area) Our elderly, unwell and imperious darling wee tortie cat has escaped home confinement and is now missing. She’s half blind, needs her meds and I fear she won’t be able to find her way home. She came to me after the EQ, and we all love her so much. Arrrgghhh 😭

It’s grand sumo time!!! And that means a vast pot of Japanese beef curry has been made - and my rikishi name towels are prepped and ready. Santa bought me Ura, Onosato and Hokutofuji, clearly hedging his bets 😂

Looks like slop but is actually a vast pan of deliciousness. A black ladle sits in a large pot of minced beef curry, the rich brown gravy studded with carrots and potatoes.
