Loved this one! @kellyyang.bsky.social's adult debut asks deep questions about aging and ageism, misogyny, and the responsibility of women to lift up other women. There is a strong child-of-an-immigrant story line. The Take and Front Desk would make a great adult-child companion read!

First book of 2026 - a blending of two storylines, one from the Silk Roads and one from 1931 in New York's Chinatown. Karina Yan Glaser deftly weaves them together with such a satisfying ending. Don't skip the author's note - I learned so much. On the mock Newbery lists for good reason.
It is impossible to narrow down my favorite books to a tidy list. Here are some I loved - some written for adults, others written for young readers. (If you only read "adult" books, you are really missing out.) These books helped carry me through a difficult year. Here's to an easier one to come.
And, of course, the classic quilt book - Tar Beach. Such fun with preschoolers making their own story quilts. I had the opportunity to see Faith Ringgold's original quilts at the Virginia Museum of Fine Art. Breathtaking.
I love quilt books! Mooshka is an older title, but I loved using it when I taught preschool.
