There's a government obsession with growth as the only solution to economic inequality. The way things are now growth only means the glass at the top gets larger, and that GDP and the stock market will only tell you how big that one glass is, not how people like you and me are actually faring.
The first is an empire controlling a colony, the second is a colony controlling an empire. I guess Americans wanted to be subject people again but without the whole monarchy thing. Land of the free my ass.
As I understand it, before invoking the Insurrection Act the president is required by law to make a formal proclamation ordering people to return to obedience of the law. I take it that this would count as such a proclamation.
Americans have remarkably skewed perceptions of group size around wealth, race, religion, and other factors.
Things are looking pretty bleak in the US right now. Not yet tinderbox conditions but it feels like one random event could see serious protests, the response to which could easily create that environment. The exchange below was captured by a Redditor.
